ZOO
ZOO... yeah, yeah. Save your jokes because I've actually seen this movie, and let me tell you -- it's pretty amazing, especially considering it's pretty much about some pretty, well, crazy stuff. But if Terrence Malick and David Lynch were morphed into one person and made a documentary film about zoophiles -- ZOO would be it. Some of the most amazing cinematography and visuals I've seen in a long time. Cinematic eyecandy and a revolution in doc-filmmaking.

Bison Calf Born at Brookfield Zoo
It is not exactly the sound of a stampede, but more like the pitter-patter of little hooves that guests can hear at Brookfield Zoo's Great Bear Wilderness exhibit with the addition of a bison calf born on May 16. The female calf marks the first birth of this species at Brookfield Zoo since the early 1970s. The mother, Leotie, 3, arrived at Brookfield Zoo in 2009 from Wildlife Prairie State Park in Peoria to join the zoo's bison herd, which also includes the calf's father, Ron, 12; Judy, 12; Becky, 13; Drew, 13; and Lucy, 3. They can all be seen roaming their habitat at the Great Bear Wilderness exhibit, which opened in 2010. Calves, which weigh between 40 and 70 pounds at birth, are usually born in late spring. Their coat is reddish at birth, and over a period of about 15 weeks it darkens to dark brown. They are able to stand within half an hour of their birth and can run after a few hours. Calves begin grazing when they are just shy of a week old but continue to nurse for several months. The birth is a welcome addition considering the species was slaughtered to near extinction in the late 1800s. Bison were hunted for their meat and bones but primarily for their hides, which were made into clothing, machine belts, and rugs. By the end of the 19th century, bison populations were eliminated over 98 percent of their range in the lower 48 states, resulting in fewer than 1000 individuals remaining. Today, bison are making a comeback. Approximately 500000 are managed on ranches ...
Cute Black-footed Cat at Brookfield Zoo
The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, is happy to announce its newest addition, and a first for the zoo: a black-footed cat born on February 14. Although staff are now cautiously optimistic about the kitten's future, such was not the case in the beginning. Hours after his birth, Animal Programs staff became concerned about the male kitten's well-being because his 4-year-old mother, Cleo, appeared not to be providing proper maternal care. To ensure that he had a chance for survival, staff quickly decided to intervene and handrear the kitten at the Chicago Zoological Society's Animal Hospital, where he received round-the-clock care. He was placed in an incubator to increase and maintain his body temperature. Now 6 weeks old and gaining weight, the kitten is being fed a milk formula from a small bottle and is starting to eat solid foods. Black-footed cats, which are classified as vulnerable on The International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species, is the smallest of the African felines. Guests visiting Brookfield Zoo can see the kitten's parents, Cleo and Butch, on exhibit in The Fragile Desert. For the immediate future, the kitten will be off exhibit.

At The Zoo, Simon & Garfunkel
Someone told me It's all happening at the zoo. I do believe it, I do believe it's true. Mmmmm...mmmmm... Whoa-OH-oh! Mmmmm... It's a light and tumble journey From the East Side to the park, Just a fine and fancy ramble to the zoo. But you can take a cross-town bus If it's raining or it's cold, And the animals will love it If you do. If you do, now. Something tells me It's all happening at the zoo. I do believe it, I do believe it's true. Mmmm...mmmmm... Whoa-OH-oh! Mmmmmmm... The monkeys stand for honesty, Giraffes are insincere, And the elephants are kindly but They're dumb. Orangutans are skeptical Of changes in their cages, And the zookeeper is very fond of rum. Zebras are reactionaries, Antelopes are missionaries, Pigeons plot in secrecy, And hamsters turn on frequently. What a gas! You gotta come and see At the zoo. At the zoo. At the zoo. At the zoo. At the zoo. At the zoo. At the zoo. At the zoo.
Lion cubs at Saint Louis Zoo
African lion cubs "Mtai" and "Serafina" made their public debut in the lion habitat at the Saint Louis Zoo's Big Cat Country on May 10, 2012. The nearly three-month-old sisters played and explored their habitat together under the watchful eye of their zookeepers. The following day, they had a play date with big sister 10-month-old Imani. Because of ongoing lion family introductions behind the scenes, there will be no set schedule for viewing the cubs at Big Cat Country. As introductions progress, the cubs will make more frequent appearances. The cubs were moved from the Emerson Children's Zoo nursery to Big Cat Country several weeks ago. They now weigh about 30 pounds each, and each eats about two pounds of meat a day. Since shortly after their birth, the cubs have been gradually introduced to their mother Cabara, father Ingozi and sister Imani, through a mesh or "howdy" gate behind the scenes. Play time in the lion habitat is a big step in the introduction process. "The cubs are doing really great, and introductions are going very well," says Steve Bircher, curator of mammals/carnivores at the Saint Louis Zoo. "We hope to have the whole lion pride together in the future." Background on the cubs The lion cubs were born on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 2012. The mother Cabara, age 6, was unable to produce milk for her cubs, so Zoo staff intervened and hand-reared the cubs in a behind-the-scenes nursery at the Children's Zoo. "Imani" was born to Cabara on July 17, 2011, and ...

Baby Aardvark and Mom at Brookfield Zoo
Brookfield Zoo is happy to announce the birth of an aardvark on January 12, 2012. Because of the dedicated care provided by the Society's zookeepers, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and nutritionist, the now healthy 13-pound calf has a bright future ahead of it. Although the calf will not be on exhibit for several months, zoo guests will be able to view it via a live video monitor In the near future. A newborn aardvark, which weighs about 4½ pounds at birth, is very fragile for its first few weeks of life. To ensure its best chance for survival, Animal Programs staff decided to assist the calf's 7-year-old mom, Jessi, in rearing her infant. Since its birth, the unsexed calf has received around-the-clock care that has included a neonatal examination and extra hydration and supplemental feeding when needed to make certain it is healthy and gaining the proper amount of weight. The supplemental aardvark formula the calf receives replicates the fat, carbohydrates, and other nutrients of a mother aardvark's milk composition. For several weeks following its birth, the calf spent nights at the zoo's Animal Hospital being cared for by the veterinary staff and brought back to its mom in the mornings. Aardvarks are nocturnal and Jessi sleeps during the day, giving the calf uninterrupted time to nurse and get all the nutrients it can from its mother's milk. This scenario mimics what would take place in the wild: a mother aardvark would leave its burrow to go forage for food ...

Da' Zoo - La La La (Hot Girls)

Shanthi, the National Zoo's Musical Elephant, Plays the Harmonica!
When the elephant keepers at the Smithsonian's National Zoo hear the sound of a harmonica, it's not the radio they've left on. Instead, it's the Zoo's 36-year-old Asian elephant, Shanthi, who, unsolicited, has a propensity for coming up with her own ditties using whatever instruments the keepers have provided. These include harmonicas, horns and other noisemakers. The Zoo has captured some of Shanthi's most recent capriccios on this video. The keepers provided the instruments after they noticed that Shanthi, more so than the Zoo's two other elephants, likes to make noise with objects. According to keepers, she will use her trunk to cover anything with a hole in it and blow until it makes a sound—and will often coax the objects to get different types of sounds from it. She taps objects with her trunk and flaps her ears against objects that make noise. Now they give the melodious pachyderm noisemakers as a form of enrichment. Shanthi is the mother of the Zoo's 10-year-old calf, Kandula. Asian elephants are endangered in the wild, where 30000 to 50000 Asian elephants still live in the forests of south and southeast Asia. Visitors to the Zoo can watch an elephant demonstration, which sometimes includes Shanthi's musical skills, at 11 am most days at the Zoo's Elephant Trails.

Simon & Garfunkel - At The Zoo
"At the Zoo" was one of Simon's and Garfunkel's single releases in 1967. The song is one of Paul Simon's many tributes to his hometown of New York City. The narrative tells the story of a trip to the Central Park Zoo, perhaps under the influence of drugs; when the singer reaches the zoo, he anthropomorphizes the animals in various amusing ways, with a resulting cynical eye towards human life. Such statements as "elephants are kindly, but they're dumb," "antelopes are missionaries" and "pigeons plot in secrecy" reflect more about man than they do about the menagerie. The song was licensed in advertisements for the Bronx Zoo in the late 1970s.
Zoo Zoo (Mighty Boosh Mashup)
POGO | www.pogomix.net This is the video for my track 'Zoo Zoo', a patchwork of vocals and drums from the BBC TV series 'The Mighty Boosh'. You can follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com and on Facebook at www.facebook.com Thanks for watching, folks. =] The Mighty Boosh is a crazy, colourful comedy TV series that follows zoo keepers Vince Noire and Howard Moon on their bizarre adventures that challenge all sense and logic. With their sexually perverse manager, and the spaced out zoo shaman with his gorilla familiar, the Boosh will never leave you in hysterics without bending your sense of humour at the same time. It's like 'Crash Bandicoot Warped' and 'Flight Of The Concords' in a blender. The performances of comedy duo Noel Fielding and Julian Baratt are charmingly underplayed, and despite the ludicrousy of their escapades, they are portrayed tactfully with an inviting undercurrent of modesty and childlike simplicity. If you love British comedy and might care for the effects of shrooms without eating them, "come with us on a journey through time and space to the world of The Mighty Boosh!"
