Frank ZAPPA's 200 Motels (Full Film)

"Touring makes you crazy," Frank Zappa says, explaining that the idea for this film came to him while the Mothers of Invention were touring. The story, interspersed with performances by the Mothers and the Royal Symphony Orchestra, is a tale of life on the road. The band members' main concerns are the search for groupies and the desire to get paid.

From Straight To Bizarre - Frank Zappa, Alice Cooper And LA's Lunatic Fringe Preview.mp4

The impulse for artists and musicians to form their own record labels are many. But often these endeavours are little more than vanity projects for which enthusiasm wanes when the first rush of releases fail to take off - leaving charity stores and flea markets awash with the unsold booty of such initially ambitious enterprises. But on occasion proceedings in a side-line of this nature can prove not just sustainable but fascinating, profitable and wholly worthwhile; a task made a little easier when the boss is a bit smarter than the average guitar hero! So it was with Frank Zappa. Desperate to remove himself from his original deal with Verve Records, in 1968 he set up the Bizarre and Straight labels in league with manger Herb Cohen, and so began a string of releases which remain extraordinary in the extreme. Records by Frank himself and with his Mothers of Invention would rub shoulders in the label's racks with releases by notorious paranoid schizophrenic and part time songwriter, Wild Man Fischer, ex-groupies the all female GTOs, a capella gospel collective The Persuasions, the first clutch of Alice Cooper records, Tim Buckley's enigmatic Starsailor, live recordings by Lenny Bruce and Lord Buckley, and a range of other musical oddities generally of a quite startling quality despite their oft-eccentric content. But it would be a 1969 release by the Mother Superior's old teenage buddy Don Van Vliet - by then long re-christened Captain Beefheart - that would provide the art ...

Frank Zappa - Sheik Yerbouti (Full Stereo Album) (1979)

NOTE: If you are planning to buy this album, good luck. The CD is out of print and can cost up to $100. Your best bet is to buy this album on eBay, but since I can't provide a link there, this album is available at: www.amazon.com Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 -- December 4, 1993) was an American composer, singer-songwriter, electric guitarist, record producer and film director. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa wrote rock, jazz, orchestral and musique concrète works. He also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers. Zappa produced almost all of the more than 60 albums he released with the band The Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. While in his teens, he acquired a taste for percussion-based avant-garde composers such as Edgard Varèse and 1950s rhythm and blues music. He began writing classical music in high school, while at the same time playing drums in rhythm and blues bands; he later switched to electric guitar. Sheik Yerbouti is a live double album with studio elements by Frank Zappa made up of material recorded in 1977 and 1978. It was first released on March 3 1979 as the first release on Zappa Records and re-issued on compact disc, first in unauthorized form by EMI in 1986 and then by Rykodisc in 1990 and then again in 1995. All Rykodisc CDs have a version of "I'm So Cute" in which the coda is removed so that the song segues smoothly into the following song. 1. I Have Been In You 0:00 2. Flakes 3:33 3 ...

Frank Zappa - Zoot Allures - 03 - The Torture Never Stops

Lyrics: Flies all green 'n buzzin' in his dungeon of despair Prisoners grumble and piss their clothes and scratch their matted hair A tiny light from a window hole a hundred yards away Is all they ever get to know about the regular life in the day; An' it stinks so bad the stones been chokin' 'N weepin' greenish drops In the room where the giant fire puffer works 'N the torture never stops The torture never stops Slime 'n rot, rats 'n snot 'n vomit on the floor Fifty ugly soldiers, man, holdin' spears by the iron door Knives 'n spikes 'n guns 'n the likes of every tool of pain An' a sinister midget with a bucket an' a mop where the blood goes down the drain; An' it stinks so bad the stones been chokin' 'N weepin' greenish drops In the room where the giant fire puffer works 'N the torture never stops The torture never stops The torture The torture The torture never stops. Flies all green 'n buzzin' in his dungeon of despair An evil prince eats a steamin' pig in a chamber right near there He eats the snouts 'n the trotters first The loin's 'n the groin's is soon dispersed His carvin' style is well rehearsed He stands and shouts All men be cursed All men be cursed All men be cursed All men be cursed And disagree, well no-one durst He's the best of course of all the worst Some wrong been done, he done it first (Well, well) An' he stinks so bad, his bones been chokin' (Yeah) 'N weepin' greenish drops, (Well) In the night of the iron sausage, (Well) Where the torture never ...

Frank Zappa - The Torture Never Stops (From the DVD)

www.eagle-rock.com Frank Zappa's New York Halloween 1981 concerts were filmed Live at The Palladium. This 'thing' entitled "The Torture Never Stops" was created in its entirety by FZ from the original concert production and intended by the Artist as one of 3 Television Specials. This is the longest version of the three - the others, "You Are What You Is" and "Dumb All Over", having actually aired. Halloween was Frank Zappa's favourite holiday, and New York was the site of Frank Zappa Halloween concerts for years! The billion and a half airings by MTV of the concerts (non-edited) followed on closely from the release of the double album "You Are What You Is" in September of that year on Frank Zappa's own recently founded and thoroughly independent label, Barking Pumpkin. Much of the set list is drawn from that work. All Frank Zappa shows were unique experiences with Zappa on guitar and baton, leading his band on flights of improvisation and drawing ever more intense performances from them. "The Torture Never Stops" cements Zappa's reputation as one of the most innovative and challenging composers and performers of the 20th century. TWA Triskelion Pedal on Dweezil Zappa World Tour

This is a Dweezil Zappa gear demo of the TWA Triskelion guitar effects pedal. We caught up with Dweezil Zappa on his Zappa Plays Zappa tour, which is part of the Dweezil Zappa World project. He was gracious enough to give us an interview, show us his gear and the effects pedals he's running in his pedalboard, and how he uses the Triskelion Harmonic Energizer pedal to replicate some of Frank's guitar tones using the TWA Triskelion, an enhanced clone of the Systech Harmonic Energizer pedal, a 70's vintage pedal which owes some of its popularity to guitar legend Frank Zappa. Unfortunately, the Systech pedal which Frank most notably used in for his guitar tone in the song Pojama People, has not been available (new) for thirty years. Vintage pedal hounds looking to buy the Systech can save a couple thousand dollars by getting the TWA Triskelion, an improved version in of the legendary Systech pedal, which incidentally also produces tones similar to the vintage Maestro Parametric Filter pedal.
