Israel & Iran Sound Beyond Borders : Sari Gelim by Yuval Avital & Mohsen Mohammadi Mohsen and I know each other since 2007. We enjoy a deep friendship and a mutual respect and dialogue through music. In the year 2010, we decided to perform together in Italy in a musical dialogue that contained both traditional music and innovation. We decided to conclude the concert with the traditional song "Sari Gelim". It is a song which can be found in many versions all over West Central Asia; in many of its versions, it tells a sad story of love between a man and a woman that cannot be fulfilled because of difference of origin or faith between them. In the recent years, I have met fantastic Iranians who shared with me the beauty of their culture and listened with great attention to the stories I told them about Israel and Judaism. Sounds of violence, hatred and war can easily hide a sound of a guitar, a setar or a voice. Nonetheless, we as musicians stand in front of the news reports to share sounds beyond the borders of narrow perceptions of cultures and individuals. Living in peace is not a choice of weakness but a choice of strength, disconnecting the endless chain of violence, predators and victims and creating a new chain of mutual respect and nourishment; of dialogue that extends our perception life and reality. My love is not guaranteed to an individual thanks to his or her origins only but at the same time I don't hate someone just because he or she was born on the other side ...

Yuval is an international composer and record producer. He has been actively involved in creating musical bridges between people of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths. His ensemble, The Yuval Ron Ensemble includes Arabic, Israeli and Jewish musicians as well as Christian Armenian artists who unites the sacred musical traditions of Judaism, Sufism (Islamic mystical tradition) and the Armenian Church into an unusual mystical, spiritual and inspiring musical celebration. The ensemble was featured in the World Festival of Sacred Music in LA 2002 and 2005 and performed in numerous events worldwide. He composed scores for numerous TV programs and films including Proteus, Oliver Twist, The Spiral Staircase, Susie Q and Someone to Die For. He has done field recordings in the Sinai desert with the Bedouins and produced the record One Truth -- "a window into the divine passion and poetry of Sufism" with the Sufi master musician Omar Faruk Tekbilek. A recipient of multiple grants from National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the American Composers Forum, Mid Atlantic Arts and the California Council for the Humanities, Yuval has worked with the Moscow Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the LAJS Symphony, and the New Hampshire Philharmonic. In 1998 he released his first solo recording "In Between the Heartbeat" on Simulacra Records, followed by the CD "In the Shallows" in 2001. In 2003 he released the albums Under the Olive Tree with the Yuval Ron Ensemble ...

Yuval Tal on Fox News, comments on Israeli Helicopter Crash on Israel-Lebanon Border
In light of the latest Israel Apache helicopter crash on the Israeli side of the Israel-Lebanon border, FOX News interviews Yuval Tal, former Israeli special operations of an elite IDF combat unit. Tal comments that if the six soldiers on board be attacked by Hezbollah militants, Israel will conduct a rescue mission into Lebanon. Tal further comments on the recent kidnapping of three Israeli soldiers and the prisoner exchange between Syria and Israel, stating that this situation is only a fraction of a larger dilemma. During his military service, Yuval Tal was decorated with honors after saving civilian life while risking his own.

Music for Seven N. 1, a piece for 7 tenor recorders, dedicated to the memory of the foremost Filipino composer, Josè Maceda. This is the first of six compositions Avital had wrote to 7 identical instruments, each one dedicated to a musical figure that had influenced his path. This composition, also titled "cycles" is inspired by the ensembles of bamboo & gong music ensembles in South-East Asia and specifically in the north of the Philippines.
