Yamakasi on Ripley's Believe It or Not
Ripley's did a piece on the Yamakasi years ago around 2001. They are a parkour group in the south suburbs of Paris. They were the first parkour group and started off the whole parkour phenomenon but now members have left and others have joined. This clip is rare becasue I done it myself. Couldn't find it anywear. **Update** The old Parkour/David Belle - Free Running/Sébastien - L'art du Deplacement/Yamakasi arguments are arising in the comments area. There are also a few ridiculing them. Just keep in mind that these guys are a lot more ordinary then the other guys in ripleys and do something a lot more useful. A comment which is good guideline AndrewTraceur: "Parkour is the discipline that David Belle founded, but the Yamakasi always say they practice "L'art du Deplacement". For example, take the underbars at 1:44; not completely efficient but still an expressive movement nonetheless." I agree with this comment and it's accurate but I have heard David Belle say it's all the same thing I have also heard the yamakasi say it's all the same thing. They just call it diffrent names. One thing which you can also note from the clip is that the yamakasi movement was a lot diffrent from the sterotypical parkour. There were none of the typical vaults that one would see in most parkour clips. Reportage TF1 - 08/04/2001 "Le parkour a été fondé dans les années 1930. Plus tard, David Belle, cofondateur du parkour avec Sébastien Foucan, a appris la « méthode naturelle » de son père Raymond Belle, dans les forêts du Nord de la France. Après le déménagement à Lisses, en banlieue de Paris, David a tenté d'appliquer le savoir de son père dans son nouvel environnement. Peu à peu, le surpassement de petits obstacles est devenu un sport, Belle et d'autres adeptes ont commencé à franchir de plus grands obstacles ainsi que des immeubles. Par Internet et la télévision, le parkour s'est popularisé. En 1997, David Belle et Sébastien Foucan ont créé le groupe des Yamakasi. Après s'être séparé, Foucan a fondé un sport qu'on appelle Freerunning qui se base sur le parkour mais avec des acrobaties. David Belle, né le 29 avril 1973 à Fécamp, est le cofondateur du parkour — ou art du déplacement —avec Sébastien Foucan. Les yamakasi sont pionniers du mouvement « art du déplacement » (ADD), qui puise ses sources techniques dans le Parkour créé par David Belle (Banlieue 13) ; on parle d'ailleurs du « Parkour de David Belle ».
