Nazi Concentration and Prison Camps: WW2 Documentary Film (1945)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Nazi Germany maintained concentration camps (in German Konzentrationslager, or KZ) throughout the territories it controlled. The first Nazi concentration camps set up in Germany were greatly expanded after the Reichstag fire of 1933, and were intended to hold political prisoners and opponents of the regime. The term was borrowed from the British concentration camps of the Second Anglo-Boer War. The number of camps quadrupled between 1939 and 1942, as slave-laborers from across Europe, Jews, political prisoners, criminals, homosexuals, gypsies, the mentally ill and others were incarcerated, generally without judicial process. Holocaust scholars draw a distinction between concentration camps and extermination camps, which were established by the Nazis for the industrial-scale mass murder of the predominantly Jewish ghetto and concentration camp populations. After September 1939, with the beginning of the Second World War, concentration camps became places where millions of ordinary people were enslaved as part of the war effort, often starved, tortured and killed. During the War, new Nazi concentration camps for "undesirables" spread throughout the continent. According to statistics by the German Ministry of Justice, about 1200 camps and subcamps were run in countries occupied by Nazi Germany, while the Jewish Virtual Library estimates that the number of Nazis camps was closer to 15000 in all of occupied Europe and that many of these ...

Why We Fight: The Battle of Britain - WW2 Documentary US Government Film (1943)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Battle of Britain was the fourth of Frank Capra's Why We Fight series of seven propaganda films, which made the case for fighting and winning the Second World War. It was released in 1943 and concentrated on the German bombardment of the United Kingdom in anticipation of Operation Sea Lion, the planned Nazi invasion of Great Britain. The episode has been criticized for an anti-Polish bias. The bias is a result of propaganda justifying the Western Allies' alliance with the Soviets; as Soviets had to be portrayed as the "good guys", the Allies who were unsympathetic towards Soviets, such as the Poles, were misportrayed or simply ignored. Thus in this episode the map of Europe shown, amazingly, shows half of Poland free (to avoid mentioning Soviet annexation of Polish territories following Soviet invasion of Poland), repeats Nazi propaganda false claims about the Polish Airforce being destroyed on the ground (contrasting it with the correct fact that the RAF was not destroyed), and ignores the significant Polish participation in the battle of Britain (support of Polish pilots from No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron and other units was widely discussed in Britain at the time this propaganda piece was filmed). Why We Fight is a series of seven propaganda films commissioned by the United States government during World War II to demonstrate to American soldiers the reason for US involvement in the war. Later on they were also shown to the ...

World War 2 Video Sad

Music listed below. Focus only on the video and nothing else for maximum effect. Just a little montage I put together. It chronicles the Allied/Axis conflict in Europe. This video has drawn alot of political/morale debate. Please remember, everyone has their opinions, please be respectful of that. Also, a lot of people ask where I got the clips from, I simply got them off of the youtube site. I am in no way taking credit for any of the footage, I simply put the pieces together. I recommend to you to go out and find these clips and watch them. I simply made this video as a tribute for the sake of war. I wanted to create a piece of art, nothing more, nothing less. Music is "Hear Our Prayer" by Yuki Kajiura Kajiura is simply one of the best OST Artists ever. Doing the soundtracks for such titles as Noir, El Cazador De La Bruja, and Tsubasa Chronicle. Very good instrumental work, and the music goes perfectly with the pictures in this video.

Audie Murphy Discusses WW2

Interview conducted by Armed Forces Radio Veteran's Day, 1963. It is interesting to note the humbleness of this great American patriot, and as he reflects on World War Two and what was his most memorable recollection. His answer may surprise you as we get a peek at the humbleness of this great American hero and Patriot! Audie Leon Murphy (1925-1971) America's Most Decorated Soldier of WWII Medal of Honor Citation: "Second Lieutenant Audie L. Murphy, 01692509, 15th Infantry, Army of the United States, on 26 January 1945, near Holtzwihr, France, commanded Company B, which was attacked by six tanks and waves of infantry. Lieutenant Murphy ordered his men to withdraw to a prepared position in a woods while he remained forward at his command post and continued to give fire directions to the artillery by telephone. Behind him to his right one of our tank destroyers received a direct hit and began to burn. Its crew withdrew to the woods. Lieutenant Murphy continued to direct artillery fire which killed large numbers of the advancing enemy infantry. With the enemy tanks abreast of his position, Lieutenant Murphy climbed on the burning tank destroyer which was in danger of blowing up any instant and employed its .50 caliber machine gun against the enemy. He was alone and exposed to the German fire from three sides, but his deadly fire killed dozens of Germans and caused their infantry attack to waver. The enemy tanks, losing infantry support, began to fall back. For an hour the ...

Here Is Germany: World War 2 Propaganda Documentary Film Directed by Frank Capra (1945)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Here is Germany was a 1945 propaganda documentary film directed by Frank Capra. Like its companion film, Know Your Enemy: Japan, the film is a full-length exploration of why one of the two major Axis countries started World War II and what had to be done to keep them from "doing it again". The film opens with scenes of everyday life in Germany, described by narrator Walter Huston. It shows people such as housewives, mailmen, farmers and policemen at work, and notes that these people were not so different than us, and seem like people Americans can understand. Anthony Veiller then interrupts with "Or can we?", as the film then switches to a montage of Nazi concentration camps and piles of dead bodies. The narrator notes that this is not the only time that Germany has unleashed war on the world, stating that while its generation fought the "Nazis", its fathers fought the "Huns" (pejorative term for Germany during World War I), and its grand father remembers the "Prussians". The narrator claims that its was all part of the same German lust for conquest. Going even further back 150 years, the film informs us that while America, Britain, and France were forming their democratic traditions, Germany was a group of 300 medieval feudal states, not one of them with a constitution or parliament. The film traces the rise of Prussia from Frederick the Great through Bismarck, telling the audience that the Prussian state was dominated first by ...

Leyte Landings and Battle of Leyte Gulf

WW2 - Battle for Kiev

German Capture of Kiew In the initial attack on the Soviet Union, Panzer Group 1, under General von Kleist, had punched deep into the Western Ukraine, unhinging the Russian front at the junction of the Russian 5th and 6th Armies. Within a fortnight von Kleist had captured Berdichev, bringing the battle to the gates of Kiev and threatening an encirclement of five entire Soviet Armies. The Rumanian attack, delayed until July 1st, provided the anvil upon which the shattered Russian Armies were increasingly pressed by the blows of von Kleist's armour. The Rumanian armies, however, were neither experienced nor particularly well equipped, and the German armies of Army Group South were comparatively disadvantaged by earlier priorities to concentrate the force of the attack in the centre of the front. Advancing against Soviet forces nearly two million strong, and incorporating fully half the armoured and mechanised units of the Red Army, the German infantry was unable to fully exploit the advantage of surprise and confusion. The tenuous embrace of von Kleist's armoured pincer was equally strained by furious Soviet attempts to break out to the East. To ensure the entrapment of the Soviet Armies in the Ukraine, the destruction of which, he believed, would signal the death knell of the Red Army, Hitler halted the drive on Moscow, ordering Panzer Group 2, under General Gudarian, to strike South, across the Desna and into the path of the Russian retreat. To Hitler the prospect of ...

Why We Fight: Divide and Conquer - WW2 Documentary Propaganda Film (1943)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Divide and Conquer (1943) was the third film of Frank Capra's Why We Fight propaganda film series, dealing with the Nazi conquest of Western Europe in 1940. The film begins immediately after the fall of Poland. Of the two major Western Allies of 1940, the United Kingdom is first to be mentioned. The role of the Royal Navy in blockading Germany is highlighted, in that it means that Germany must overcome British resistance in order to clear the way for its world conquest. Hitler's treachery towards the small neutral countries of Europe is exposed - to Denmark: "We have concluded a non-aggression pact with Denmark" - to Norway: "Germany never had any quarrel with the Northern States and has none today" - to the Netherlands: "The new Reich has always endeavored to maintain the traditional friendship with Holland" - and to Belgium: "The Reich has put forth no claim which may in any way be regarded as a threat to Belgium". These quotes are repeated after the conquest of each of these countries is shown. The first targets of the Nazis in 1940 were Denmark and Norway. Nazi interest in Norway is described in terms of Germany's desire to use Norway's fjords as U-boat bases, and to use airfields in Norway for a bomber attack on the British naval base at Scapa Flow. After Hitler's surprise invasion of Denmark is briefly mentioned, the film accuses the Nazis of using Trojan Horse ships - designed to look like merchant ships but concealing troops ...

88mm Flak - WW2 Anti-Aircraft Gun

A fun clip showing the firing of a newly restored WW2-era German 88mm flak (anti-aircraft & anti-tank) gun. The gun tractor (Hanomag half track) and the 88mm gun are both owned and based here in New Zealand. Well done to the restoration team in Blenheim (Dave Lochead, Tim Babb, Craig Keown, Reece Duncan and Roger Lauder) for getting this superb piece of historic military hardware up and running (firing) again. Please note, the barrel on this gun had been previously rendered useless by having a piece cut out of the side. The restoration team 'corrected' this problem such that the gun can now be fired with blank rounds. However, the barrel will NEVER be strong enough to use blank rounds explosive enough to produce a realistic recoil effect. While the current effect isn't 100% realistic (ie little or no recoil) it's as close as it will ever be possible to get with this particular 88. -- www.aviationfilm.com Copyright © 2009Historical Aviation Film Unit This video material may not be reproduced in any form (except as an embedded video on any other website), without the written permission of the Historical Aviation Film Unit.

WW2 Documentary: United States Army Air Forces - Expansion to Air Power (1944)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchived.blogspot.com The United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) were the military aviation arm of the United States of America during and immediately after World War II. It was a component of the United States Army, divided functionally by executive order in 1942 into three autonomous forces: the Army Ground Forces, the Services of Supply (which in 1943 became the Army Service Forces), and the AAF. Each of these forces had a commanding general who reported directly to the Chief of Staff of the United States Army. The AAF controlled all parts of military aviation formerly distributed among the Air Corps, General Headquarters Air Force, and ground forces corps area commanders, and thus became the first air organization of the US Army to control its own installations. The direct precursor to the United States Air Force, its peak size was over 2.4 million men and women in service and nearly 80000 aircraft in 1944, and 783 domestic bases in December 1943. By VE Day it had 1.25 million men stationed overseas and operated from more than 1600 airfields worldwide. The Air Corps became the Army Air Forces in June 1941 to provide the air arm a greater autonomy in which to expand more efficiently, and to provide a structure for the additional command echelons required by a vastly increased force. Although other nations already had separate air forces independent of the army or navy (such as the British Royal Air Force and the German Luftwaffe), the USAAF ...

Here Is China: Second Sino-Japanese War - WW2 Documentary (1944)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Second Sino-Japanese War (July 7, 1937 -- September 9, 1945) was a military conflict fought primarily between the Republic of China and the Empire of Japan. From 1937 to 1941, China fought Japan with some economic help from Germany (see Sino-German cooperation (1911--1941)), the Soviet Union (1937--1940) and the United States (see American Volunteer Group). After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (1941), the war merged into the greater conflict of World War II as a major front of what is broadly known as the Pacific War. The Second Sino-Japanese War was the largest Asian war in the 20th century. It also made up more than 50% of the casualties in the Pacific War if the 1937--1941 period is taken into account. Although the two countries had fought intermittently since 1931, total war started in earnest in 1937 and ended only with the surrender of Japan in 1945. The war was the result of a decades-long Japanese imperialist policy aiming to dominate China politically and militarily and to secure its vast raw material reserves and other economic resources, particularly food and labour. Before 1937, China and Japan fought in small, localized engagements, so-called "incidents". Yet the two sides, for a variety of reasons, refrained from fighting a total war. In 1931, the Japanese invasion of Manchuria by Japan's Kwantung Army followed the Mukden Incident. The last of these incidents was the Marco Polo Bridge Incident of 1937, marking ...

Weird Weapons of WW2

Bat project being tested as a means to firebomb the Japanese in WW2.

Don't Kill Your Friends (1943 WW2 Documentary Film)

thefilmarchive.org An air gunner (AG) aka aerial gunner is a member of an air force aircrew who operates flexible-mount or turret-mounted machine guns or autocannons in an aircraft. Modern aircraft weapons are usually operated automatically without the need for a dedicated air gunner, but older (World War II and earlier) generation bombers used to carry up to eight air gunners. Most modern air gunners are helicopter door gunners, who typically have other primary roles such as crew chief or observer in addition to their air gunner role. Others fly as members of aircrews on gunships where their duties can include loading ammunition into guns and can manually fire the guns if computer systems fail. A tail gunner or rear gunner is a crewman on a military aircraft who functions as a gunner defending against enemy fighter attacks from the rear, or "tail", of the plane. The tail gunner operates a flexible machine gun emplacement on either the top or tail end of the aircraft with a generally unobstructed view toward the rear of the aircraft. While the term tail gunner is usually associated with a crewman inside a gun turret, tail gun armaments may also be operated by remote control from another part of the aircraft. The tail gun armament and arrangement varied between countries. During World War II, USAAF heavy bomber designs such as the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-29 Superfortress used a fixed gunner position with the guns themselves in a separate turret covering an approximately ...

WW2 German / Nazi Helicopters part 1 : Where Eagles Dare

part 1 of 2. Footage of real pre-war and WW2 German combat helicopters, technically superior to the Bell Helicopter in the Where eagles dare film. Jewish German Dr Kurt Hohenemser designed and engineered the two Flettner helis shown in the video. First up, female test pilot and iron cross winner FlugKapitan Hanna Reitsch flying the FW-61 in 1937, setting many distance, endurance and height records. Then her flying it indoors at the Deutschland Halle in 1938 at the Berlin Motor Show . Then the the first craft to pioneer "Air-mobile" and evacuation operations, bomb carrying, machine gun equipped medi-vac, artillery transporting Fa-223 "Drache". The Drache flew in 1940. The Fa 223 carried a nose mounted MG 15 machine gun plus an array of other weapons onboard for crew use and two quarter ton bombs, optional auxiliary droptanks and winch system. With a ceiling of over 22000ft it was suitable for high altitude mountain missions. In one demonstration example the Drache flew 85 missions in 29 consecutive days to 15000 ft high altitude, carrying men, 75mm artillery and all their ammunition. Able to carry up to 12 combat troops on external benches and 4 crew inside, it could also carry up to 2.2 tons by cable externally. The Draches used in one of the Helicopter units stationed in Münster flew rescue and recover missions and could retrieve and transport whole airframes of other craft suspended below on cable. In one case a Fa223 carried the 1.3 ton engine of a FW-190 fighter over ...

WW2 Rudel STUKA JU87 (D-3) G-1 BEST RARE GUNCAM FOOTAGE

This is probably the most impressive available guncam footage available of a cannon armed JU87. Although NOT stated in the footage the Stukas mounting these guncams were part of a experimental combat unit named " Panzerjagdkommando Weiss" (Tank hunting commando Weiss) which had Ulrich Rudel assigned to it as commander. They were taken in February 1943 at the Black Sea in Russia, during the battle of the Kuban Bridgehead. The Stukas are D-3 models NOT G-2 models mounting two large caliber BK (Bordkanone) 3.7cm AT guns. Famous for their tank killing capabilities their first REAL use was against Soviet shipping and landing craft in Feb. 43. Rudel alone destroying over 70 of these vehicles in this month. Guncam footage is from this unit. Cannon armed Stukas (then designated G-1) were only send to regular squadrons in October 43. The footage itself is most impressive. The sensible fuzes of the high-explosive 3.7 shells (used during these attacks) get triggered just by hitting the water resulting in HUGE fountains of water..1-2 hits were enough to blow up a landing craft...anyway..see for yourself .. turn speakers up and enjoy.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Soldiers: WW2 Treatment Documentary - Let There Be Light (1948)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Let There Be Light is a 1946 American documentary film directed by John Huston. The film, commissioned by the United States Army Signal Corps, was the final entry in a John Huston trilogy of films produced at the request of the US Government. This documentary film follows 75 US soldiers who have sustained debilitating emotional trauma and depression. A series of scenes chronicle their entry into a psychiatric hospital, their treatment and eventual recovery. Some of the treatments involved then-new drugs and hypnosis, and the impression was given of miraculous cures, though the narration says that there will be continuing psychiatric care. Much of the filming was done at Edgewood State Hospital, Deer Park, Long Island, New York which between 1944 and 1946 was part of Mason General Hospital, a psychiatric hospital run by the United States War Department named for an Army doctor and general. The film was controversial in its portrayal of shell-shocked soldiers from the war. "Twenty percent of our army casualties", the narrator says, "suffered psychoneurotic symptoms: a sense of impending disaster, hopelessness, fear, and isolation." Apparently due to the potentially demoralizing effects the film might have on recruitment, it was subsequently banned by the Army after its production, although some pirated copies had been made. Military police once confiscated a print Huston was about to show friends at the Museum of Modern Art. The Army ...

Why We Fight: The Battle of China - WW2 Documentary Propaganda Film (1944)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Battle of China (1944) was the sixth film of Frank Capra's Why We Fight propaganda film series.[1] It follows an introduction to Chinese culture and history with the modern history of China and the founding of the Republic of China by Sun Yat-sen, leading on to the Japanese invasion. The invasion of China is explained in terms of the four-step plan for Japanese conquest, mentioned in the Tanaka Memorial. "Here was their mad dream. Phase One - the occupation of Manchuria for raw materials. Phase Two - the absorption of China for manpower. Phase Three - a triumphant sweep to the south to seize the riches of the Indies. Phase Four - the eastward move to crush the United States." Special attention is paid to Japanese atrocities such as the bombing of Shanghai, including an attack on civilians shown in "Bloody Saturday", the famous image of a burned Chinese baby crying in a bombed-out railroad station. As well it includes graphic film footage of the Nanking Massacre atrocities. The film mentions a Nanking massacre death toll of 40000 -- far lower than modern estimates; the true death toll was unknown at the time. The mass westward migration associated with the moving of the Chinese capital to Chongqing, and the construction of the Burma Road are also covered, and the film concludes with overview of the Chinese victory at the Battle of Changsha. The Chinese communists are never explicitly mentioned, but are implicitly acknowledged with ...

WW2 - Goliath

An unmanned miniature tank, the Goliath carried a 2OOlb explosive charge for the destruction of bunkers and armoured vehicles by remote control. It was towed to the area of action on a small trailer. Early models of the Goliath were powered by two battery-driven auto starter motors, one motor to each track. Later models were powered by a Zundapp two-stroke engine. The Goliath had a maximum speed of 12 mph and a range of 650 yards. It was guided and detonated by trailing wires, the controller sending electrical signals to vary the speed of each track and so steer the weapon. The Goliath was not a success, primarily because its tracks were vulnerable to small arms fire. It was used for the most part on the Eastern front, but a few were deployed at Anzio in Italy and in France during the Battle of Normandy.

WW2 Kittyhawk aircraft discovered in the Western desert after 70 years.

P-40 Kittyhawk fighter aircraft that crashed in 1942 was found in excellent preserved state recently. The discovery was made in a remote part of Egypt's western desert. According to 'Curtiss Fighter Aircraft 1917-1948' by Francis Dean and Dan Hagedorn, page 294, the 540 aircraft were bought by the British government in Contract A-1835 commencing with AK591, before Lend Lease took effect. The pipe type exhausts indicate an early model Kittyhawk, Mk I or IA. Looking through my Air Britain serials book (through the 540 a/c), assuming it is a 260 Sqd a/c, I could see only two possibles that could be considered: AL134 lost on 7.9.1942 AK693 lost on 16.5.1942 If someone could check the 260 Sqd RAF ORB there may be some clues from the above dates." Why We Fight: Prelude to War - WW2 Documentary Propaganda Film (1942)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Prelude to War was the first film of Frank Capra's Why We Fight propaganda film series, commissioned by the Office of War Information (OWI) and George C. Marshall. It was made to convince American troops of the necessity of combating the Axis Powers during World War II. The film was based on the idea that those in the service would be more willing and able fighters if they knew the background and reason for their participation in the war. It was later released to the general American public as a rallying cry for support of the war. In an edit added to the film before public release, a comment by Henry L. Stimson, the Secretary of War at the time, was quoted to create trust with the audience, "the purpose of these films is to give factual information as to the causes, the events leading up to our entry into the war and the principles for which we are fighting." The purpose of the OWI was to use mass communication to sell the war and to define our perception of the reality of war; therefore, they released Prelude to War to further these goals. The film commences with an explanation of how Americans were brought into the war through heroic motives to protect countries unable to protect themselves. America had this duty to righteousness and Christian values throughout history, according to the values and beliefs set forth by the founding fathers. The documentary makes use of compare and contrast methods throughout the film in order to ...

M1 Carbine - WW2 US Military .30 Rifle

Review and shooting test of the .30 M1 Carbine, a 1943 Inland-General Motors model. I included a segment with close-ups to view the condition of the rifle in detail and any markings. Shooting segments are at 100 yards on steel targets and include a picture-in-picture aspect of the target camera. In the video, I cited the M1's use in WW2, but it was also a standard in Korea, and according to my research, very early stages in Vietnam. Based on the condition of this rifle at the time of purchase, I suspect it had not been fired in several years, although I could be wrong. The rifling is in very good condition, and there wasn't even the hint of smell of burned powder or cleaning solvents. Just a dry, old rifle that possibly had been sitting in someone's collection for nostalgic purposes. There were just over 6 million M1's produced from 1941 to 1945. Obviously, many have been lost or destroyed. These are becoming more difficult to find in good condition, and prices are triple what they were 20 years ago when I first had the desire to acquire an M1. It is also great to see the M1 gaining somewhat of a cult status with the current generation based on its inclusion in POV video games. The only element I might add to this rifle is a sling, that's it. No plans to add optics or convert it to a folding stock model. I like it the way it is, and plan for the M1 to be a permanent item in my collection. There will be additional videos shooting the M1 at various distances, and it will ...

Hitler was NOT responsible for the war between Germany and West, this was mostly due to Jewish influence, and the policies of USA (Roosevelt) and Britain (Churchill).
