Woodstock 1969: A Retrospective
This is a short montage of images from the Woodstock Festival held from August 15th to August 18th of 1969 in Bethel, New York. Max Yasgur graciously allowed the use of his 600 acre dairy farm for the massive three day event. Woodstock of 1969 is widely considered to be one of the defining moments in rock music history. It was a gathering of over half a million people of all ages with one common purpose: to experience peace, love, and music. Update 4/25/11: Over 300000 views! Thanks for watching and sharing your opinions. I recently made a new video, so if you are a Beatles fan, check it out here: www.youtube.com
Jefferson Airplane -Somebody to love , White rabbit (live at Woodstock)
Jefferson Airplane's diamonds performed at Woodstock, on 17th August 1969 . "Somebody to Love", written by Darby Slick and "White rabbit", written by Grace Slick. It was back in the year 2008. I had just started listening to Jefferson Airplane. I had looked them up due to a reference John Densmore does in his book "Riders on the storm" to the song "White rabbit"; I was very impressed by the lyrics and...well, the rest is history I guess :) Searching through youtube, I found this very video that I have posted here. Sadly, it was taken down shortly after that, probably due to copyright issues and shit. So, I decided to upload it and make it available for everyone again. Jefferson Airplane's performance of these two songs is included in a film called "Woodstock:The Director's Cut" by Michael Wadleigh. "Good mornin',people!" Really digging: Jack's outfit and groovy headbanging, Spencer's hat and badass drumming, Marty's voice, sideburns and tambourine, Jorma's playing and crazy hair, Paul's headband and vocals (well on other songs :p) and Grace's eyes, barefootness (lol) and of course her unbelievably amazing voice. Love Jefferson Airplane's spirit. Go ride the music people and enjoy!

Wow...this trailer is moving - it's how history was made. Coming to theaters on August 28, 2009. Starring: Demetri Martin, Emile Hirsch, Dan Fogler, Henry Goodman, Jonathan Groff, Eugene Levy Taking Woodstock is the new film from Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee - and its a trip! Based on the memoirs of Elliot Tiber, the comedy stars Demetri Martin as Elliot, who inadvertently played a role in making 1969s Woodstock Music and Arts Festival into the famed happening it was. Featuring a standout ensemble cast, and songs from a score of 60s musical icons including The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, and Country Joe and the Fish - plus a new recording of Freedom from Richie Havens - Taking Woodstock is a joyous voyage to a moment in time when everything seemed possible. Working as an interior designer in Greenwich Village, Elliot feels empowered by the gay rights movement. But he is also still staked to the family business - a dumpy Catskills motel called the El Monaco that is being run into the ground by his overbearing parents, Jake and Sonia Teichberg (Henry Goodman and Imelda Staunton). In the summer of 1969, Elliot has to move back upstate to the El Monaco in order to help save the motel from being taken over by the bank. Upon hearing that a planned music and arts festival has lost its permit from the neighboring town of Wallkill, NY, Elliot calls producer Michael Lang (Jonathan Groff) at Woodstock Ventures to offer his familys motel to the promoters ...

Woodstock ~ Joni Mitchell
www.coloradream.com ~ A look back at a time that brought people together with music, celebration and love! Sure there was lots of sex, drugs and rock & roll...but the true nature of this event was a coming together as one...to experience life to its fullest...a moment in time that will live on forever in our hearts and minds. I came upon a child of god He was walking along the road And I asked him, where are you going And this he told me Im going on down to yasgurs farm Im going to join in a rock n roll band Im going to camp out on the land Im going to try an get my soul free We are stardust We are golden And weve got to get ourselves Back to the garden Then can I walk beside you I have come here to lose the smog And I feel to be a cog in something turning Well maybe it is just the time of year Or maybe its the time of man I dont know who l am But you know life is for learning We are stardust We are golden And weve got to get ourselves Back to the garden By the time we got to woodstock We were half a million strong And everywhere there was song and celebration And I dreamed I saw the bombers Riding shotgun in the sky And they were turning into butterflies Above our nation We are stardust Billion year old carbon We are golden Caught in the devils bargain And weve got to get ourselves Back to the garden
The Who, Woodstock 1969 - Pete's closing solo
The Who's closing performance at Woodstock 1969, which includes Townshend's classic stage performance at the end. This embodies all that is rock, and is the best example of how Townshend in his prime was a no-bull guitar player raging with energy and absolute dominance on stage. This is one of the earliest flourishes of punk in my opinion.
Arlo Guthrie - Coming Into Los Angeles - Woodstock 1969
Before I get another DMCA filed against me, I'd like to say I have put this online as I belive this can be counted as fair use, as it criticises Warner Bros. Remastered DVD version. I really hope someone at Warner sees this, and by the time the Blu-ray reissue is released, the audio problems that were encountered on the DVD release have been resolved! Right, moving on: Yup, ANOTHER Woodstock clip, showing the heavy use of drugs and alcohol... Amazingly, there were only 3 reported deaths at the festive, and only ONE of them were drug related! Don't you just feel we live in a paranoid world now?

Woodstock 40th Anniversary Blu Ray Edition
The three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 was the pivotal event of the 1960s peace movement, and this landmark concert film is the definitive record of that milestone of rock & roll history. It's more than a chronicle of the hippie movement, however; this is a film of genuine historical and social importance, capturing the spirit of America in transition, when the Vietnam War was at its peak and antiwar protest was fully expressed through the liberating music of the time. With a brilliant crew at his disposal (including a young editor named Martin Scorsese), director Michael Wadleigh worked with over 300 hours of footage to create his original 225-minute director's cut, which was cut by 40 minutes for the film's release in 1970. Eight previously edited segments were restored in 1994, and the original director's cut of Woodstock is now the version most commonly available on videotape and DVD. The film deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and it's still a stunning achievement. Abundant footage taken among the massive crowd ("half a million strong") expresses the human heart of the event, from skinny-dipping hippies to accidental overdoses, to unpredictable weather, midconcert childbirth, and the thoughtful (or just plain rambling) reflections of the festive participants. Then, of course, there is the music--a nonstop parade of rock & roll from the greatest performers of the period, including Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Canned Heat, The Who, Richie ...

Matthew's Southern Comfort - Woodstock
Joni Mitchell wrote the song from what she had heard from then-boyfriend, Graham Nash, about the festival. She had not been there herself, since she had instead chosen to appear on The Tonight Show. She wrote this song crying at home watching the show on television. The song later went on to be hits for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Matthews' Southern Comfort, the latter reaching #1 on the UK singles chart for three weeks in October 1970. David Crosby in an interview said that Mitchell had captured the feeling and importance of the Woodstock festival better than anyone who had been there. Led Zeppelin incorporated Woodstock's lyrics and structure into live renditions of their song "Dazed and Confused" between 1973 and 1975.
