Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger

Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger The red-headed stranger from Blue Rock, Montana Rode into town one day; And under his knees was a raging black stallion And walking behind was a bay. The red-headed stranger had eyes like thunder His Lips they were sad and tight; His little lost love lay asleep on the hillside And his heart was heavy as night. cho: Don't cross him, don't boss him, he's wild in his sorrow, he’s riding and hiding his pain; Don't fight him, don't spite him, just wait till tomorrow maybe he'll ride on again. A yellow-haired lady leaned out of her window, and watched as he passed her way. She drew back in fear at the sight of the stallion but cast greedy eyes on the bay; But how could she know that this dancing bay pony meant more to him than life? For this was the horse that his little lost darling Had ridden when she was his wife. - refr. - The yellow-haired lady came down to the tavern, Looked up the stranger there; He bought her a drink, he gave her some money he just didn't seem to care. She followed him out as he saddled the stallion, and laughed as she grabbed at the bay; He shot her so quick they had no time to warn her, she never heard anyone say: - - ref The yellow-haired lady was buried at sunset The stranger went free, of course, 'For you can't hang a man for killing a woman Whose trying to steal your horse. this is the tale of the red-headed stranger And if he should pass your way, Stay out of the path of the raging black stallion And don't ...

Willie Dixon - Bassology

"Blues Masters" 1966

Willie Dixon - The Little Red Rooster.wmv

As one of the greatest American songwriters of all times, Willie James Dixon was a bright, self-confident, determined, intelligent, and gifted man who helped the blues evolve from the 1940's through the 1980's. Born the seventh of Willie Dixonfourteen children on July 1, 1915, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Dixon was greatly influenced by his mother, Daisy, who turned everything she said into rhymes, and Willie learned to do the same. However, his first real musical influence came at the age of seven when he often left school to follow a truck pulling a band behind it starring pianist Little Brother Montgomery. (Snowden 1). As a youth, Dixon sang with the Union Jubilee singers, a gospel quartet with its own radio program. At the age of seventeen, Dixon left his hometown of Vicksburg for the busy streets of Chicago to become a boxer. One year later he was named the Illinois State Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion. Although he had early success as a boxer, he only fought four fights during his pro career because of a money dispute with his manager, which ended whatever dreams Dixon may have had as a boxer. After boxing, he began his musical career by forming the Five Breezes in 1940 with Leonard "Baby Doo" Caston. They recorded songs until 1941 when Willie was arrested for refusing to serve in the US Armed Forces. After finishing his sentence, Dixon formed a new group, the Four Jumps of Jive, which mainly performed in Chicago clubs and later recorded for Mercury (Perry 1-2 ...

The City of New Orleans - Willie Nelson

City of New Orleans is a folk song written by Steve Goodman, describing a train ride from Chicago to New Orleans via the Illinois Central Railroad in bittersweet and nostalgic terms. Goodman got the idea while traveling on the eponymous train for a visit to his wife's family. He performed the song for Arlo Guthrie in the Quiet Knight, a bar in Chicago, and Guthrie agreed to add it to his repertoire. The song was a hit for Guthrie on his 1972 album Hobo's Lullaby, and is now more closely associated with him, although Goodman performed it until his death in 1984. The song has also been covered by Willie Nelson, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Hank Snow, and others. Willie Nelson version Steve Goodman won a posthumous Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1984 for Willie Nelson's version, which was included on his 1984 album of the same name. It reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in the United States[and the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada. The City of New Orleans - Lyrics Ridin' on the City of New Orleans Illinois Central, Monday mornin' rail Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail All along the south-bound odyssey The train pulls out at Kankakee And rolls along past houses, farms and fields Passin' trains that have no names And freight yards full of old black men And the grave-yards of the rusted automobiles Good morning America, how are you? Say don't you know me, I ...
