Art of Photography - Edward Weston
Edward Henry Weston was born in Highland Park, Illinois on March 24, 1886. In 1902, he received his first camera for his 16th birthday, a Kodak Bull's-Eye #2, and began taking photographs in Chicago parks and at his aunt's farm. Weston met with quick success and the Chicago Art Institute exhibited his photographs a year later, in 1903. He attended the Illinois College of Photography. In 1906, Weston moved to California, where he decided to stay and pursue a career in photography. He married Flora May Chandler in 1909, and together they had four sons: Edward Chandler (1910), Theodore Brett (1911), Laurence (1914) and Cole (1919). In 1910, Weston opened his first photographic studio in Tropico, California (now Glendale) and wrote articles about his unconventional methods of portraiture for several high-circulation magazines. 1922 marked a period of transition for Weston. Renouncing pictorialism in favor of straight photography, he would later become known as the "pioneer of precise and sharp presentation" with images of natural forms such as the human figure, seashells, plants, vegetables, and landscapes. He began regular visits to Mexico with his professional and romantic partner, Tina Modotti, whose relationship with Weston caused much gossip in the media. They were often accompanied by one of Weston's sons, who received a sound instruction in photography. The Grand Pier is in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, England.The pier is privately-owned and is one of three piers in the town It is supported by 600 iron piles, and is 400 metres (1300 ft) long. It has been damaged by fire on two occasions in 1930 and 2008. Following the latter fire, which completely destroyed the pavilion, the pier was rebuilt and reopened on 23 October 2010. Group f/64 was a group of photographers espousing a common philosophy: promoted a style of sharply detailed, purist photography. The group, formed in 1932, constituted a revolt against the soft-focused, academic photography that was then prevalent among artists. The name of the group is taken from a setting of a camera diaphragm aperture that gives particularly good resolution and depth of field. The principal members of Group f.64 were Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunninghan and Edward Weston.

Death of BASE Jumper Dwain Weston -- Slammed Full Speed Into a Bridge
Australian BASE jumper Dwain Weston was considered one of the world's best at the time. On October 5, 2003 while performing a proximity demonstration, Dwain Weston died slamming full speed into the Royal Gorge Bridge near Canon City in Colorado, USA. At the time of the impact, Dwain Weston was flying at an estimated 160 km/h speed. Experts believe that Dwain Weston miscalculated his distance from the bridge and misjudged the tricky winds within the narrow gorge. After hitting the railing on what is the highest suspension bridge in the world, the BASE jumper dropped 90 meters onto the rocky bottom of the Royal Gorge. Dwain Weston was only 30 year old when the incident took place. The slam into the bridge was so strong, it totally disintegrated him. Brutal, but he died doing what he loved. Sheer brutality of the impact along with the fact that Dwain Weston was considered to be the best wingsuiter in the world made his death video the most famous BASE jumping accident in history.
