TW3 - That Was The Week That Was
That Was The Week That Was, also known as TW3, was a satirical television comedy programme that aired on BBC Television in 1962 and 1963. Devised, produced and directed by Ned Sherrin, the programme was fronted by David Frost and cast members included improvising cartoonist Timothy Birdsall, political commentator Bernard Levin, and actors Lance Percival, who sidelined in topical calypsos, many improvised in response to suggestions from the audience, Kenneth Cope, Roy Kinnear, Willie Rushton (then known as 'William'), Al Mancini, Robert Lang, David Kernan and Millicent Martin. The last two were also singers and the programme opened with a song – eponymously entitled That Was The Week That Was – sung by Martin to Ron Grainer's theme tune and enumerating topics that had been in the past week's news. Off-screen script-writers included John Albery, John Betjeman, John Bird, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Peter Cook, Roald Dahl, Richard Ingrams, Gerald Kaufman, Frank Muir, Denis Norden, Bill Oddie, Dennis Potter, Eric Sykes, Kenneth Tynan, Keith Waterhouse and others. The programme was groundbreaking in its lampooning of the establishment. Prime Minister Harold Macmillan was initially supportive of the programme, chastising the then Postmaster General Reginald Bevins (nominally in charge of broadcasting) for threatening to "do something about it". During the Profumo affair, however, he became one of the programme's chief targets for derision. After two successful seasons in 1962 ...

My Week With Marilyn
In the summer of 1956, 23-year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne of THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL) joined the set of THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL as an assistant determined to make his way up in the film business. His diary, released 40 years later, documented the tense interactions between Sir Lawrence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh of HAMLET, VALKYRIE) and the iconic Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams of BLUE VALENTINE, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN). But a week was missing from that account, and this is the story of that week - an experience Clark will never forget. As he and Marilyn spend time together, she begins to shake off the insecurity that plagues her and exposes the many complex layers that have fascinated the world since her rise to fame.

- Venture Capital - This Week in Venture Capital - Kelly Hwang, Associate at GRP
This week we have Kelly Hwang, Associate at GRP. For more information, show notes, and an upcoming schedule, go to www.thisweekin.com. Mark Suster hosts This Week in Venture Capital. The following is from Mark Suster's post on www.bothsidesofthetable.com How VC's Calculate Valuation: We walked through a standard deal where you raise $1 million at a $3 million pre-money valuation leading to a $4 million post money valuation. The math works out that the investor owns 25% of the company post deal ($1 million invested / $4 million valuation) and assuming 1 million shares, each share would be valued at $3 / share ($3000000 pre-money / 1 million shares = $3 / share). Investors own 25%, the founders own 75%. NOTE: In the video I talked about how VC's and entrepreneurs decide the total number of shares at the first major funding round and why it's often a high number. But this example above is all entrepreneur math, not the VC's. The VC assumes you'll have an option pool. That's normal. You'll need to hire and retain talen to grow your company. Those options need to come from somewhere. The more senior members you have (say you already have a CEO, CTO, VP marketing, VP Biz Dev, VP Products) then the less options you'll need and vice versa. Industry standard post your first round of funding will be 15-20%. I say "post" funding because you'll need more than this amount pre-funding to get to this number after funding. We walk through this in the video. To view the more detailed ...

This Week In Social Media - Simon Mainwaring on This Week in Social Media--Live Pilot
0:00-1:00 We're here today on the This Week in Social Media pilot episode! 1:00-1:45 My guest today is Simon Mainwaring of We First (wefirstbranding.com). 1:45-3:00 Tell us about your recent work with charitable organizations and how that shifted your thoughts on branding, Simon. 3:00-4:00 So far big businesses haven't done spectacularly well, have they? Are there any examples of companies really doing a great job in social media? 4:45-9:00 Are there any examples of companies who were lagging behind and are now struggling to catch up? 9:00-10:30 So if you attempt to control the conversation too much, you're inevitably going to get backlash, right? 10:30-12:30 When you say the company needs to become human, you mean that there's no single individual behind the brand? Is that a big shift for some companies? 12:30-13:30 It's interesting that companies are now hiring Chief Listening Officers, just to make sure the customers are being heard. 13:30-17:45 You bring up the notion of trust a lot in your book. I think this stems from a brand's desire to over-control the message. What are your thoughts? 17:45-19:30 So one message to brands is that you have to participate or your voice will be lost, right? 19:30-20:15 We're taking a look at the top trends on Twitter this week--the Jersey Shore, Justin Bieber and Harry Potter all made the list. 20:15-21:15 How does a big brand work itself into these conversations? 21:15-23:30 Simon talks about how Mountain Dew crowd-sourced the ...
