Anonymous 'OpCannabis' Vs War On Drugs
Via The Raw Story: "Members of the hacking collective [Anonymous], who were at the epicenter of planning and promoting "Occupy Wall Street" last year, announced earlier this month that April 20, 2012 would mark the beginning of an official "Anonymous" push-back against America's drug laws. Speaking to Raw Story this week, a person claiming to be a member of "Anonymous," who watched an attack on Sony's website from behind the scenes but did not participate, claimed responsibility for the group's new "OpCannabis" campaign, explaining that the operation is determined to throw the collective's weight behind drug reform...".* Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Ben Mankiewicz discuss on The Young Turks. The War on Drugs Has Failed. Is Legalization the Answer? Trailer
Public support for the war on drugs has dramatically decreased, but there is less agreement over what polices should replace drug prohibition. On Friday, March 9, following a keynote address by noted travel writer, public television producer and public radio host Rick Steves on the previous evening (Thursday, March 8), the Baker Institute will host a conference titled "The War on Drugs Has Failed. Is Legalization the Answer?" Able and respected defenders of current policy, leading advocates for reform and academic researchers will discuss and examine key issues such as alternatives to prohibition, effects of the war on drugs on minority communities and international efforts to reduce the harms of drug abuse.
Ron Paul Calls for End to Drug War
Ron Paul took an opportunity during the PBS Republican Presidential Debates, moderated by Tavis Smiley, to call for end to the Drug War. "Prohibition didn't work and prohibition on drugs hasn't worked either." Ron Paul cited the unfair disparity in the percentage of blacks imprisoned over drug offenses in proportion with the relative percentage of black drug users, giving example to the system's racial bias. Paul also noted the money wasted on the so-called 'War on Drugs' since the 70s when it's clear that drug use and prison capacity has only swelled in wake of the profit driven motives of the "war."

WKUK - The Civil War on Drugs (FULL movie)
A huge thank you to Trevor for linking to this video on his blog! Take note! This is a fan edit, NOT the official version that is shown by the WKUK on tours. == FAQ (because the same questions keep cropping up) == Q: What is that song played while Trevor and Sam are getting high for the first time? (06:30) A: An instrumental of Wicked Act by YT. No one has an MP3 file of the instrumental so please _do not ask_! Q: Is this really a fan edit? A: YES, this is a fan edit. Because IFC made high quality episode videos available on their website, I simply downloaded them and edited them together in a way that viewed the best. Q: Why is it censored? A: It's censored in the broadcast version, as well as in the videos IFC put on its website. (Some of Season 5's sketches are also censored.) This is all 10 parts of CWOD spliced together to form one long movie. Never having seen the 'real' version, I took some creative freedoms with this edit (but I like to think it's close enough). DC Capitol Hemp Shutting Down: Obama's War on Drugs to Blame
"The government is forcing a form of censorship on us," says Adam Eidinger, co-owner of Capitol Hemp, a two-store chain in Washington, DC that is closing its doors for good on August 1, 2012. "They are saying you can't talk about certain subjects if you're going to sell pipes." Capitol Hemp sells clothing and soaps and a vast array of glass and other types of pipes. Police raided Capitol Hemp last fall after an undercover cop reported "unnatural and deceptive" behavior at the company's Adams Morgan branch. What raised the cop's suspicions? According to the police report, employees corrected his use of the word bong and changed the subject whenever he brought up marijuana. The store's book selection, which included titles on drug legalization, was also cited as proof that the place was really a criminal enterprise. Under current law, drug paraphernalia is illegal, even absent traces of verboten substances. But since anything - from rolling papers to apple cores to beer cans - can be used to smoke pot, federal prosecutors end up relying on "context" to determine when a pipe is just a lawful pipe and not a contraband bong. The government seized over $300000 of merchandise from Capitol Hemp. After the feds reduced the charges in such a way that a jury trial in federal court was not an option, Capitol Hemp agreed to a deal in which it will "voluntarily" shut down in exchange for the full return of its seized merchandise. When it reopened its doors after the raid, Capitol Hemp ...

Judge Jim Gray on The Six Groups Who Benefit From Drug Prohibition
In 1992, Jim Gray, a conservative judge in conservative Orange County, California, held a press conference during which he recommended that we rethink our drug laws. Back then, it took a great deal of courage to suggest that the war on drugs was a failed policy. Today, more and more Americans are coming to the realization that prohibition's costs—whether measured in lives and liberties lost or dollars wasted—far exceed any possible or claimed benefits. Reason.tv's Paul Feine interviewed Gray about drug policy and the prospects for reform. The interview was shot by Alex Manning and edited by Hawk Jensen. Judge Jim Gray is the author of Why Our Drug Laws Have Failed and What We Can Do About It: A Judicial Indictment of the War on Drugs. Approximately 8.30 minutes. Part 1: www.youtube.com Part 2: www.youtube.com Part 3: www.youtube.com Part 4: www.youtube.com Part 5: www.youtube.com Part 6: www.youtube.com The War on Drugs, A War on Ourselves? a 2002 ABC 20/20 special with John Stossel examines the effect of the War on Drugs on American society. Stossel interviews Detroit's police chief Jerry Oliver who points out that since the dealing of drugs is between willing buyers and sellers, the War on Drugs forces cops to use deceit to catch those dealing drugs. Despite all the law enforcement resources put into fighting the drug war, availably of drugs is just as high as before the drug war began. Three unintended consequences of the war on drugs are explored including that it sucks children into the underworld, corrupts cops, and creates crime. Stossel travels to Colombia and examines the effect of the War on Drugs on Colombians. The futile effect of incarcerating of drug dealers to stop the flow of drugs is noted and many people who choose to use drugs ask why they shouldn't have the freedom to choose what substances to put in their bodies. Finally Stossel travels to Europe to see how drug legalization has affected European society.
