Waikiki Beach Sand Replenishment Widening Project 2012
The Waikiki Beach Sand Replenishment project began in January of 2012 to widen eroding beaches in Waikiki. An off shore barge pumps in sand to the beach that has been washed out to sea over the years. The sand is pumped to one section of the beach that is closed off. Once pumped in, it is "dewatered" and piled high with heavy equipment, preparing it to be moved further down the beach where the erosion has occured. This video shows the beginning of moving the enormous mountains of sand via dump trucks down the beach to it's final destination. This project will widen the beaches from the famous Duke Kahanamoku statue to the famed pink hotel, The Royal Hawaiian. This project is paid for with state and private (the hotels) funds at a cost of about 2.2 million dollars.

The Waikiki Artfest is located in Kapiolani Park across from the Honolulu Zoo at the Diamond Head of Waikiki. The event is scheduled from 9am to 4pm both Saturday and Sunday, and admission is free. Waikiki Aquarium: Hawaii's Waikiki Aquarium has been named among the top family destinations for 2011 by Best Western International. Travel and Kids Expert Amy Graff cited the aquarium's new Northwestern Hawaiian Islands exhibit as a "must see." May is celebrated as Monk Seal Education month at Waikiki Aquarium. Residents and visitors are invited to special activities throughout the month. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will provide monk seal keiki activities. Guest are also invited to attend the Research Camp where they will learn about monk seals through activities, monk seal tags, cells and a microscope to view fur, teeth, and bones. Chicken Waikiki
The sauce had a bit of a bite, but I REALLY liked this dish despite its name lol Everything with pineapple in it is considered Hawaiian ;) 2-3 LB. CHICKEN PIECES 1 CAN SLICED PINEAPPLE (1 LB. 4 OZ.) or approximately 2 c. fresh pineapple 1 large green pepper, cut crosswise in circles Sauce: 1/2 c. sugar 2 Tbsp. cornstarch 3/8 c. cider vinegar 3/8 c. pineapple juice (use the fluid from the can of pineapple) 1 Tbsp. soy sauce 1/2 tsp. ginger 1 chicken bouillon cube Shake the chicken in a paper bag with flour, salt and pepper. Brown it in a skillet and then place uncovered in a glass baking dish in oven at 350 degrees. While chicken is baking, make the sauce. Combine sauce ingredients in a saucepan, cook, stirring constantly and boil 2 minutes until sauce thickens. Pour immediately over chicken. Place pineapple and green pepper over chicken during last half hour of baking time. Total baking time 1 to 1-1/4 hours. Note: For 4-5 lbs. chicken, double the sauce. Serve with rice and a tossed salad or cooked vegetables.

A playground for King Kamehameha the Great after he conquered the island of Oahu.The pink hotel seen here is the Royal Hawaiian. Opened in 1927, its Spanish-Moorish style was fashionable during the Rudolph Valentino era. Queen Kaahumanu's Summer Palace was also located here. Hired a scooter in Waikiki and the first piece of shit was a 49cc 2 stroke and died about 20 minutes up the road. Took it back and was upgraded to a 200cc 4 Stroke. Road the entire lap of the island in about 3.5 hours. Scary thing is you can do 70 mph without a helmet on and yet people back here at home can spend up to $1K on a helmet for safety reasons... Needless to say I only had sun glasses on and thongs with board shorts haha.
