Music Visualization: Mute Math - Reset (HD)
Please watch this from start to finish. Don't just jump into the middle and say "I don't get it". Also, if you can, please watch it in HD. I sacrificed a few extra rendering hours for it to be in HD. I took a bullet for you, man! Now that that is out of the way, onto whatever else there is. One day I heard the song Reset by Mute Math and I liked it a lot. Then I thought 'Hey, I'm learning After Effects! Why not make a music video?' This video took me a few days to make. However, this wasn't nonstop working. I'd put in a few hours every day. I am quite proud of it, as it is one of the few videos I have actually finished. There is no plot, no anything; just shapes and colors to the beat of the music. [NERDY STUFF] Rendering took 3 and a half hours in CS4 on my Duo Core processor and 4gb (3.2 with my Windows XP) of ram. When it was done, however, the file size was 25.5gb. I couldn't do much with a 25gb file (I couldn't even watch it without lag), so I used DivX to compress it to 164mb with absolutely no noticeable quality loss (how DivX does it, I don't wanna know...). That's about 21 times smaller, for all you math enthusiasts (no pun intended). Dawn (youtube.com is in the fully immersive KeckCAVES (keckcaves.org) in a different building. Burak is in the VR lab using a desktop computer and a mouse. Two Kinects are capturing Oliver's image, and two are capturing Dawn's image. Burak's image is not being captured. Sound is shared among all three participants, although Burak doesn't say anything. All viewers see the same data. Both Oliver's and Dawn's images are rendered in Burak's view. Only Oliver's image is rendered in Dawn's view, so she can see him and how he is moving, plus her own physical body. Only Dawn's image is rendered for Oliver. Burak's view is represented by a spherical avatar with orientation ornaments, and his mouse is represented by a cone. Oliver and Dawn have similar avatars that are sometimes visible in addition to their images. This video is assembled from screen shots off Burak's monitor and precisely shows what he sees. The perspective of the video changes as Burak rotates his view with the mouse. Oliver and Dawn move relative to sample in the video when they rotate or scale their individual views relative to the data. I-35W Design Visualization
The North Tarrant Express is dedicated to improving mobility along north I-35W, northeast I-820 and SH 121/183 Airport Freeway through a regionally supported managed lane system. This visualization was presented to the public on Dec. 15, 2011 at the public hearing for I-35W from I-820 to SH 114 (Segments 3B & 3C). It shows the ultimate configuration of the project, however, it has not been fully funded.

This video was created for www.zutopedia.com It demonstrates two comparison sorting algorithms Bubble sort and Quick sort. Comparison sorting algorithms are only allowed to 'see' the data through a sequence of pair-wise comparisons, therefore they are applicable to any type of comparable objects: numbers, strings, colored balls, etc Bubble sort is very simple but has poor performance. A comparison sorting algorithm's performance is usually measured by the number of comparisons it makes. Bubble sort performs on the order of n^2 comparisons to sort n elements. Quick sort is only slightly more complicated but usually performs much better (as demonstrated in the video). It performs on average an order of n log(n) comparisons to sort n elements. This is much lower than n^2 for large values of n. However, if the algorithm makes some 'unlucky' choices it might require n^2 comparisons after all. Other algorithms exist that guarantee the number of comparisons will not exceed n log(n), however, in practice Quick sort usually out-performs all other comparison sorting algorithms due to its simplicity. If other operations other than pair-wise comparisons are allowed, then a broader range of algorithms can be used. Some of them can perform much faster than Quick sort, but they are limited to a particular type of elements, eg, numbers is a certain range.

This visualization shows ocean surface currents around the world during the period from June 2005 through December 2007. The visualization does not include a narration or annotations; the goal was to use ocean flow data to create a simple, visceral experience. This visualization was produced using NASA/JPL's computational model called Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean, Phase II or ECCO2.. ECCO2 is high resolution model of the global ocean and sea-ice. ECCO2 attempts to model the oceans and sea ice to increasingly accurate resolutions that begin to resolve ocean eddies and other narrow-current systems which transport heat and carbon in the oceans.The ECCO2 model simulates ocean flows at all depths, but only surface flows are used in this visualization. The dark patterns under the ocean represent the undersea bathymetry.
