Colon cancer is a deadly disease that, thanks to screening tools, can be prevented and cured if caught early. One of the current ways to look for cancer or pre-cancerous polyps is with colonoscopy. That's the test during which doctors use a scope to spot and remove polyps which they send to a lab for diagnosis. But now, a new technology allows doctors to determine if you have pre-cancerous polyps without having to remove them first. Doctors at Mayo Clinic say it could save many people from having unnecessary biopsies.

Duke study: Monkeys "Move and Feel" Virtual Objects Using Only Their Brains
In a first-ever demonstration of a two-way interaction between a primate brain and a virtual body, two monkeys trained at the Duke University Center for Neuroengineering learned to employ brain activity alone to move an avatar hand and identify the texture of virtual objects. "Someday in the near future, quadriplegic patients will take advantage of this technology not only to move their arms and hands and to walk again, but also to sense the texture of objects placed in their hands, or experience the nuances of the terrain on which they stroll with the help of a wearable robotic exoskeleton," said study leader Miguel Nicolelis, MD, PhD, professor of neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center and co-director of the Duke Center for Neuroengineering. Without moving any part of their real bodies, the monkeys used their electrical brain activity to direct the virtual hands of an avatar to the surface of virtual objects and, upon contact, were able to differentiate their textures.
MD Beyond Oasis (The Story of Thor)
One of my favorite Megadrive action-adventures and a superb game. Its an amazing graphical feat on the Megadrive, It almost reminds me of a top-down Alladin, animation wise. And music wise, we have a OST by Yuzo Koshiro, so no complains there either. The story begins when Ali (our character) discovers an ancient Gold Armlet that has the power to Summon and control the 4 elemental spirits (water, fire, shadow and plant) in a struggle agaisn the owner of the Silver Armlet. A "sequel" was released inb 1996 for the Sega Saturn, but it is in truth, a prequel storywise. I was very pleased to see this title come up on the Wii's Virtual Console games list.

A Doctor Grows in Brooklyn
Doctor Jay Parkinson became a celebrity last year as word spread about his unconventional practice in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Instead of maintaining a traditional office and paying support staff, Parkinson's operation is entirely virtual and requires almost no overhead. (Unless you consider a Mac overhead.) Instead, he operates a web site loaded with Web 2.0 touches that allows patients to easily get in touch and explains his services in plain English. After an initial in-person consultation, exchanges can be online, either through instant messaging, email or web cam. He uses Gmail to handle his email load and has neatly integrated Google Calendar into his web site - allowing patients to see his schedule at a glance and book their own appointments. Resisting the argument that technology has created a new Race to the Bottom in healthcare, by making medicine less human and the healthcare system increasingly complex, Parkinson argues that when used properly, Web 2.0 tools like mash-ups, mobile devices, instant messaging, digital video and social networking can free doctors to spend more time with patients - not less.

Super Hydlide Game Sample - Genesis/MD
Original Air Date: October 25th, 2009 Sega gamers might not be all too familiar with the Hydlide series, save for the infamous "Virtual Hydlide" released for Sega Saturn, but if you're a fan of the MSX, NES/FC, and Fujitsu FM-7, then you may know a little more about this series than you may necessarily want to know. Hydlide was originally made back in 1984 and perhaps became most known when it was released for the NES/FC, where the game is largely scorned and considered a horrible game in the US (but due to its history in Japan, it was actually well-recieved there). Given the negative backlash the game recieved, one would think that the game stopped there. No one in their wildest dreams could imagine that it would get not one, not two, but 2 & a 1/2 more significant games in the series, not to mention a few revisions and remakes. So what's the deal? Is it some horrible series or are am I simply "not getting it"? Well, Super Hydlide isn't really doing the Genesis/MD any favors, but it is perhaps the most competent entry in the entire Hydlide series, so you may have to take it with a grain of salt. When I say it's not doing the system any favors, consider this; The game was originally made for MSX in 1987 under the name "Hydlide 3: The Space Memories". It was THEN made for the Famicom in 1989 as "Hydlide 3: Yami Kara no Houmonsha". Continuing its long journey, it was made several months later for the Genesis/MD as "Super Hydlide". One of the enhancements to the Modular Disk Storage Manager software allows customers to monitor the system status of multiple arrays, including previous generation arrays. Also, a new tab in the array management window that provides customers with an image of the system with key status of controllers, power supplies, enclosures and hard disk drives. In the video, I will cover both of these features as well as taking you through creating a new virtual disk. The MD 32x0 series has more than twice the performance over the previous generation.

It was based around an IDEO virtual reality headset (HMD) with LCD screens in the visor and stereo headphones. Inertial sensors in the headset allowed the system to track and react to the movements of the user's head. Because of development difficulties the Sega VR remained only a prototype, it was last seen at computer shows in 1993 and vanished from the release schedules in 1994. Four games were apparently developed for the system, each using 16 Mb cartridges that were to be bundled with the headset. [Info from Wikipedia] One of these Sega VR games was Iron Hammer, a first person shooter with futuristic aircraft. A prototype of this game was somehow saved from the limbo and thanks to Nicola from Gamescollection.it, we had a brief chance to play it at the VGH 2008, a little videogames expo that took place in Monza (Italy) the last May.

Sega needed something to counter Final Fight on Super Nintendo. Their answer was this: Streets of Rage (Bare Knucle in Japan). Project MD: Frozen Memories (preview)
OK, I didn't want to make this public before to avoid overhyping, but to the hell with this. Here you get to see Frozen Memories, a level from Project MD. In case you don't know about this, Project MD is a homebrew game I'm making for the Mega Drive, and as you can see, it's a 2D platformer =P You play as Stephany, and the game is set inside a virtual world she created. While this level is pretty meh, because it's set inside a virtual world, some levels look pretty crazy. Expect something like Pulseman in terms of visuals. Also, you can collect power-ups in the way that give Stephany special powers. In this video, you can see the ray power-up. Other than that it's a standard platformer, though. There is no release date so don't ask for it. I have 5 levels completed so far, but of course the final game will have much more (and bosses too!). With my luck, the game will probably be ready at the same time Pier Solar finally comes out. It already happened to me something like that before x_x Also sorry, no sound. And also, stupid codec screwed up the columns in the background, although I bet that YouTube is gonna murder it even more =/

My walkthrough tour video of Biosphere 2 in Oracle, AZ. (Background information below) Biosphere 2 is a 3.15-acre (12700 m2)[1] structure originally built to be a man-made, materially-closed ecological system in Oracle, Arizona (USA) by Space Biosphere Ventures. Constructed between 1987 and 1991, it was used to explore the complex web of interactions within life systems in a structure that included five areas based on natural biomes and an agricultural area and human living/working space to study the interactions between humans, farming and technology with the rest of nature. It also explored the possible use of closed biospheres in space colonization, and allowed the study and manipulation of a biosphere without harming Earth's. The name comes from Earths biosphere, Biosphere 1, Earth's life system and the only biosphere currently known. At a size comparable to two and a half football fields, it remains the largest closed system ever created. The sealed nature of the structure allowed scientists to monitor the continually changing chemistry of the air, water and soil contained within. Health of the human crew was monitored by a medical doctor inside and an outside medical team.
