Visit to Vietnam: Dalat
In the spring of 2011 I went to Vietnam after graduating. My next stop after Saigon was the mountain town of Dalat. Positioned at about 4800 feet, the climate is dry and temperate -- colder than I was expecting in fact. It is one of the major tourist towns in Vietnam, particularly with Vietnamese tourists. I took a day tour to see a coffee plantation, a silk factory, a waterfall, and I visited the village of a mountain tribe. Like so much of Vietnam, Dalat was a place that had things I didn't expect to see in Vietnam, and warrants a second visit in the future. Video: Vietnam cop clings to speeding bus windshield wipers
A Vietnamese traffic police officer went on a wild ride in Hanoi, clinging to the windshield wipers of a moving bus for nearly a kilometre after a rogue driver tried to avoid a ticket. Traffic lieutenant Nguyen Manh Phan pulled over Phung Hong Phuong, 37, in Hanoi on Monday for driving on the wrong side of the road, VN Express reported. Phuong refused to produce his papers and rushed back to the bus, prompting the officer to jump onto the front in an attempt to stop him. Video shot by one of Phan's fellow police officers shows the officer trying to get his footing and dangling precariously from the moving bus as oncoming traffic whizzes past. At one point the bus was travelling at 50 kmph (31mph). Phan could be heard shouting: "Call the police!" The driver, who was released in 2010 after serving nearly four years in prison for a fatal traffic accident, eventually pulled over after being chased by police and villagers. Pho - Vietnam
International dish #8 is a Vietnamese dish called PHO (pronounced "fuh"). Here is the recipe Ingredients * 4 quarts beef stock * 1 large onion, sliced into rings * 6 slices fresh ginger root * 5 star anise or 2.5 tsp of anise seed * 1 cinnamon stick * 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorn * 1 pound sirloin tip, cut into thin slices * 1/2 pound bean sprouts * 1 cup fresh basil leaves * 1 cup fresh mint leaves * 1 cup loosely packed cilantro leaves * 3 fresh jalapeno peppers, sliced into rings * 2 limes, cut into wedges * 2 (8 ounce) packages dried rice noodles * 1/2 tablespoon hoisin sauce * 1 dash hot pepper sauce Directions 1. In a large soup pot, combine broth, onion, star anise, ginger, cinnamon, and peppercorns. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cover. Simmer for 1 hour. 2. Arrange bean sprouts, mint, basil, and cilantro on a platter with chilies and lime. 3. Soak the noodles in hot water to cover for 15 minutes or until soft. Drain. Place equal portions of noodles into 6 large soup bowls, and place raw beef on top. Ladle hot broth over noodles and beef. Pass platter with garnishes and sauces.

Covert operations aim to fulfill their mission objectives without any parties knowing who sponsored or carried out the operation. It is normally sponsored by taxes from the government. Under United States law, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is the sole US Government agency legally allowed to carry out Covert Action. The CIA's authority to conduct Covert Action comes from the National Security Act of 1947. President Ronald Reagan issued Executive Order 12333 titled in 1984. This order defined covert action as "special activities", both political and military, that the US Government could legally deny. I was born in 1987. Already 20 years growing up in Belgium, studying, having fun and, most important to me, learning music! My parents both come from Vietnam but they didn't know each other until they arrived in Belgium. I sometimes think about what my life would have been like if they had met in Vietnam. But it isn't so and I wouldn't wish my life to be different. All the same I do know a bit about Vietnam. Cooking at home is still Vietnamese most of the time. I can understand a few words in Vietnamese and my family used to perform traditional songs and folk dances at Chinese New Year. At the same time, I live and think more like a Belgian. For example, I like to eat chocolate (a bit more than I should...) or to have a beer with my friends. Anyway these two cultures are integral parts of my personality. The more time goes by, the more certain I am it was destiny. And I'm also sure that singing is my way. True, so far I've always been lucky in my career. It all began when I won a song contest on TV. I met my manager there. He guided me to my producer, who then made my duet with Marc Lavoine possible. Then with "J'espere", I followed Marc Lavoine on tour around France, Belgium and even Switzerland. It is really incredible for a young artist to have such an experience. But he didn't stop there and wrote me my first songs, including "Bonjour Vietnam". Actually this song already has its own story. My brothers Bobby and Michel have been living in Vietnam for a while now. They have been teaching English to Vietnamese children and teens. I've been wanting to visit them for while now and I finally got around to doing so! I was fortunate to visit the school my brother Michel taught at. Today, the day I arrived, just so happened to be the last day of school. It was refreshing to see all those happy faces. There is a peaceful consciousness in the air.
