Title: Michael Bay LOVES Product Placement (The Island)
Added: May 26, 2008
Author: spiffae
Duration: 3:6
Description:
I remember seeing The Island in the theaters when it came out and being totally blown away by the amount of INSANE product placement. I've been patiently waiting for someone to have the same realization as me and then make me a youtube vid, but no one did so I had to go and do it. I hope you like it.I think Xbox, Cadillac, and Steve Buscemi's Budweiser plug are the three worst.

Oct 19, 2011 - I wouldn't say the scene with Apple should be any kind of good PR

Nov 4, 2011 - This is realistic because many of these companies will exist in the future. I think it was cool the way he showed how different companies could evolve in a futuristic world.

Dec 3, 2011 - There's nothing wrong with product placement. Films cost money. The real problem is Micheal Bay.

Dec 7, 2011 - Lol, thanks for that. Unfortunately I had no such realisation nor care for the product placement. But I do love this movie! It's a fascinating story, and the actors put it down well. And yes, this should be properly serialised in a 1970's crude fashion. And yes... everyday I see those companies and logo's. I don't own any, but they're stil just normal to see, so they don't feel like "placement" to me. The only unusual thing is... why MSN search, not Google. I suppose that's placement.

Dec 12, 2011 - Also, the companies need to spend their money on something anyway. Granted, it would be better if they spent their money on actually helping people, but in the long it employs people which is always a good thing.

Dec 23, 2011 - I love product placement, especially in futuristic movies. It constantly reminds me that I'm watching a possible eventuality of my own world. It's nifty.

Mar 20, 2012 - I don't think those Adidas were the result of "product placement"... I think the guy just happened to be wearing Adidas. Especially when you consider the Puma deal, which was definitely orchestrated. Like commenters below, I believe Product Placement sucks only when it feels inauthentic, and the eye is obviously being drawn to a logo (e.g. the Puma). That's when I feel like I am being taken advantage of as a moviegoer.

May 25, 2012 - I just watched a video that stated 'The Island' had 35 companies with product placement. Woah, just goes to show how "UNAFFECTED I AM" by product placement cos off the top of my head I could name """"1"""" and that is the Puma shoes and the words "product placement" never even entered my head. Well, it NEVER does and i'm rather proud of that. Knowing that product placing in movies just like adverts don't make me wanna buy those products. :)
