Description:
A report by Ángel Varela Pena. We are in Tallin, the capital of Estonia and European Cultural Capital for2011. The tiny Baltic country has become a good example of using the Internet for free.Estonia obtained its independence from the Soviet Union 20 years ago. Before 1991, it was difficult to have computers, but in 2011 Estonia has become the country which creates companies such as Skype and Kazaa. What is its secret? The former journalist and politician Marko Mihkelson explains this revolution. In 2007, Estonia became the first country in the world to hold online legislative elections. This is the concept established in Estonia. It began as the "Let´s Do It" project. Let´s have a look at a global project created here: "Let´s Do IT" At the beginning, a friend´s group asked themselves why they were living in the midst of garbage if the people had the solution. A founding engineer of Skype created this application to find garbage. Thanks to thousands of volunteers, a local idea has become a global idea.Estonia has a smaller population than Barcelona, but almost everybody has a laptop and a blog. The creator of Nami Nami blog has been passionate about cooking since she was a child. Estonia obtained its dependence and Pille continued her way. While she was doing (post) graduate studies in Scotland she started writing a blog about Estonian food.It was an instant success. The blog became a book. The illustrator is a Spanish blogger who's crazy about Estonian food. Pille has the help of her partner who writes a blog about gardening. Eveli got interested in blogs when she found herself living out in the country, working (as a ) freelance and caring for her two kids. In Estonia, the technological revolution arrived at the same time as its freedom. Free wi-fi, a growing trend, which has advantages for the people and creates business opportunities.

Mar 17, 2012 - As far as u know, there is no tax payed wi-fi. Its free in most places because it would make no sense to charge for it.
Esoparagon Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - If the government paid for it then it was paid for by taxes.
Uhmu45 Says:
Mar 18, 2012 - Yea but my point was that most of they wi-fi comes from privet businesses who can't afford to charge for it because people would leave you for a place where there was free wi-fi.

Oct 16, 2011 - Just a small remark, we achieved RE-independence. Independence was achieved before WW2. I mean I am not angry or anything, just pointing it out. =P
