Thing is I do not remember who was the conductor and what orchestra was that . Antal Dorati ? Bernard Haitink ? Gewandhaus of Leipzig ? Wiener Philarmoniker ?. Could you facilitate that data ?. Nov 10, 2010 - Симфоническая поэма "Мазепа" и фортепианный этюд того же названия из числа двенадцати "Трансцендентных этюдов" написаны Ференцом Листом в честь Гетьмана Украины Ивана Мазепы. Симфония написана на сюжет стихотворной поэмы Виктора Гюго. Сам Гюго вдохновился поэмой Байрона "Мазепа", а Байрон в свою очередь почерпнул сведения из произведений "Мазепа" и «Истории Карла XII» Вольтера.

Nov 2, 2011 - @CarlMariaWeber Actually, the Tran. Étude nº4 came from this Symphony. Liszt composed the orchestra version, then he made all the 12 Études, and transcripted it to the piano.Correct me if I'm wrong of course!

Dec 3, 2011 - Well, the 1837 (or 1838) version of the 12 etudes existed before the Symphony poems did, and many of these themes are found in the early version of the etude. So, the piano version did (sort of) come first.
