May 5, 2012 - hey trains CAN fly !!
Ningirsutyr Says:
May 5, 2012 - Another stupid power staging demonstration from the Cold War era. So glad it's over and that the countries finally stopped measuring who's stronger like children..
willygrant1971 Says:
May 6, 2012 - @Ningirsutyr this was a test of a nuclear flask that is transported by rail to and from power stations, nothing to do with weapons. These flasks are still transported today by rail. The reason for the publicised tests was to reassure the public that even in a serious crash, there was no chance of a nuclear disaster.

May 6, 2012 - I would have been the guy in the boardroom insisting that there was only one way to be sure.
danlefou Says:
May 10, 2012 - That's a bet you would lose. I just try to inform, the opposite of making people feel stupid.

May 11, 2012 - Bet the train driver had an headache !!!Calm down trolls, i know it was automated.
suroj Says:
May 13, 2012 - But what about two trains crashing into eachother? Another test please..
danlefou Says:
May 14, 2012 - Head-on collisions between trains have happened many times in real life, and everyone knows the results. So far, no nuclear fuel flask has been hit for real by a speeding train, fortunately. This test was to see if one would leak dangerous material if it were to be involved in a collision.
rubics3hippie Says:
May 16, 2012 - The type of person who says "That's a bet you would lose" is NOT the type of person who isn't trying to make others feel wrong/stupid.
danlefou Says:
May 17, 2012 - I said he would lose the bet because I don't do what he bet I do, and I can prove it. Nothing more, nothing less. His post required a response, and that was the only appropriate one, the simple truth. No value judgement was implied.
minecraftPLOXxxx Says:
May 18, 2012 - What about the driver?Or was it remotely powered?
danlefou Says:
May 18, 2012 - The driver, or a technician, started the engine nearly nine miles away, set the controls, climbed out and released the brakes by turning a handle installed near the cab door. He then walked off to have lunch, while the train accelerated away by itself. There was no remote control; the train just ran until collision with the nuclear fuel flask stopped it at the end of the line. The loco carried just enough fuel for the run, and was scrapped on site.
minecraftPLOXxxx Says:
May 18, 2012 - Oh ok thanks :D
