Oct 15, 2009 - actually, if you read the book, DILLINGER A SHORT AND VIOLENT LIFE, it tells through dozens of different witness accounts that dillinger acted like a normal person outside of his criminal career. he even played with Wantanka's (man who owned the little bohemia lodge when dillinger stayed there) son. dillinger also gave some money to those he put in harms way and never hurt anyone who didnt hurt him.

Jan 10, 2010 - Just watched this movie last night for the first time. It was awesome. One of my favorite bits was when the Feds were moving in on Dillenger at the Biograph theater. The tension build-up while the Clark Gable movie was playing, was really great.

May 23, 2010 - I thought this film was great, although I don't think Dillinger deserves THAT much of a heroes' worship, he did still kill people and steal money, it's just that he did the killing part with perhaps less vigour, and the stealing with more flair. He lead a violent life only to die in violence, as with all the other public enemies it's fitting really. Still, he's the one I think deserved fame the most.

In newsreel days, they'd light calcium flares to get an intense harsh light at night so that film in the old movie cameras would expose at least enough to make an image. Cops, newsmen, fire dept's, etc carried them. In what movie did you ever see them replicate this, and for that matter, how many people would even know these things existed? It was a beautiful touch to include this historical scene, at the airport, and at the JD death scene?
