After performing at The Roundhouse in London on the 17th of this month, Talib Kweli invited SoulCulture down to the studio the next day, where he was joined by Akon-affiliated UK emcee Sway to record a song together. In-between recording and shooting a music video in London, Kweli spoke to SoulCulture TV about his displeasure at the gig of the night before, his experiences of the UK's Capital and why he chose to shoot a video here for a song from his new album, Gutter Rainbows. He also discusses how he perceives his lyrical growth across albums and another album he is also working on titled Prisoners Of Conscious, describing the former project as "like the early outtakes of Prisoners Of Conscious, but embellished upon."

Feb 11, 2011 - of course, there is no doubt about that. talib is certainly way better than the majority out there. but that's what makes it so disappointing to me, knowing that he COULD still deliver an album like RE1. why did he do so much albums in this short time? he is currently working on 2 other albums.. why didnt he just put the best songs of all these albums together to one masterpiece. you know, eardrum, RE2 and gutter rainbows. would be waaay better for him and the fans.

Feb 11, 2011 - No idea but Talib has his methods. RPM was a great album in my opinion. I didn't enjoy "Eardrum" for the most part and having finished "Gutter Rainbows" today, I can say it was solid but not great. Yes, it's easy to ask why couldn't Kweli have combined what us fans perceive as the best tracks from those albums into one great masterpieces but in Talib's mind, he's comfortable producing tracks and albums on a consistent basis. I just like to appreciate the gems from each album.

Anybody can make a street rap, just insert drugs, bitches,money and bragadocio about the fans not having any of that, and it's terrible. Who wants to listen to somebody talk a bunch of shit in your ear? I could care less about it. And NO I'm not a hater because they have all that, I'm just saying that anybody could write about it and it isn't creative.

Feb 23, 2011 - I have to say this this is probably Kweli's best album. the production is so high quality and musical and lyrically he's just on point. This album shows why Kweli is my favorite MC and needs to be mentioned among MC's like KRS, Rakim, Pos and Dave, Kool G, Big Daddy, and many other great founding MC's.
