2,000 homes are currently hooked up to a pilot project on the island of Jeju, South Korea, testing a new type of electricity supply system, called a smart grid.Lim Kee-Chu, whose home is hooked up to the system, has had $20,000 worth of solar power technology installed. The South Korean plan calls for at least three city grids to go 'smart' by 2013, and for 10 per cent of energy to come from renewable sources by 2020.Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports from the South Korean island.

Aug 18, 2011 - America is the oil industry's bitch. This could never happen here. The US government is totally committed to bending the consumer over so the energy mafia can fuck us in the ass.

taihee79 Says:

Aug 22, 2011 - I just wanna explain this to you. South Korean households can apply for Smart Grids system with 50% South Korean Government support and 10% Local Government support for their expenses. So, it means they pay about $5500 or $6000 from their pocket. The lifetime of this system is about 25 years. Not a bad investment for better environment and life.

im1greatman Says:

Aug 23, 2011 - Those government funds come from the people. Don't act like this is some great deal when in reality it's a waste. It would takes longer than 6 years just to see a return on your investment. Smh

jxtsful Says:

Sep 3, 2011 - Please South Korea export this technology to the US, we are tired of terrorist Arab gas!!!

ZenPsyko Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - I agree, this idea is revolutionary. It could make huge impact in both conservation AND our search to reduce energy consumption. hey if this works, South Korea singlehandedly saved the planet.

BurritoBazooka Says:

Nov 27, 2011 - Wow.. this could basically change the world.Europe and North America won't have to rely on unstable countries any more for an energy supply. We won't have to fight for our oil any more. There will be enough for everyone.Things like this makes me think humanity may still have a small glimmer of hope :)

denisrenelara Says:

Dec 27, 2011 - no problem, call you representative and tell him to pass Obama's Job bill and call those governors who turned down the money for a super fast train lane. =)
