Mar 18, 2012 - I'm confused - Gregg is in this incarnation of the band. They just don't show him in this video. He has been in every version of the Allman Brothers. There are four original members here, only three in the current one, since Dickey is out.
Jamdor78 Says:
Mar 18, 2012 - Dickey played in California last week and has dates with his band coming up.

Mar 23, 2012 - wait maybe it is jamo????lol there is a third guy drumming in the middle don't know him.....anybody know???? thx

Mar 24, 2012 - I recorded this entire broadcast off of PBS when it aired in 1996 & Blue Sky is but one of about seven songs they did. The others were Sailin' Cross the Devil's Sea, Ain't Wastin' Time No More, Ramblin' Man, Same Thing, Back Where It All Begins & One Way Out. Betts sang lead on three, Gregg Allman on three & Warren Haynes on one (Same Thing). Jaimoe IS on drums with Marc Q. on percussion in the middle. In 2000 Gregg & Butch were going to leave if Jaimoe would not vote with them to remove Dickey.

Mar 24, 2012 - The Allman Brothers was formed when Phil Walden became Duane Allman's manager & ask him to put a three piece band together. Walden gave Jaimoe to Duane as Jaimoe was in Otis Redding's road band & Walden was the manager but Otis was killed. Duane wanted Berry Oakley on bass but Oakley wouldn't leave Second Coming because of Dickey Betts so Duane ask Dickey to join which made it FOUR guys. Later Dickey & Oakley wanted another drummer but keep Jaimoe too because Jaimoe was more jazz than rock...
boblackey1 Says:
Mar 24, 2012 - so Duane had worked with Butch Trucks in The 31st of Feb. so Butch was ask to join as the dummer who kept time w/ Jaimoe playing like a percussionist. Now there were 5. I've heard a tape with this line up & Dickey, Oakley & Duane are doing the singing still using 2nd Coming. Finally it was decided to ask Duane's brother Gregg who was in LA in a band to join. That made 6 & were looking for a new name but Phil Walden insisted on ABB because Duane was known a little due 2 session work w/ Atlantic.

Mar 28, 2012 - I know where you're coming from but in the context of business, "Allman Brothers Band" is just a business name or DBA. There is nobody name "Jethro Tull" nor is there anybody named "Floyd" in Pink Floyd. As far as using the name...I don't care. They can call themselves 5 Smelly Hippies; if the music is good I don't care.

Mar 28, 2012 - Its not merely a name, its a trademark. First, unlike Jethro Tull or Pink Floyd, there were people named Allman. Second, if you went to see Jethro Tull and the only actual member was the drummer (like a Buffalo Springfield tour in the 80s) its not Buf Sprgfld. If they called themselves 5 Smelly Hippies they would not sell as many tickets. My point is Betts is stealing a name he does not have the moral rights to - perhaps the legal rights. ITS NOT THE ALLMAN BROS.
boblackey1 Says:
Mar 30, 2012 - At the VERY END of the video you can SEE Gregg Allman sitting behind his organ!!! I have already said I taped the entire show off of PBS when it first aired in 1996. Gregg Allman is on organ & sings lead on several of the songs. This just happens to be one where Dickey Betts sings lead. Also Jaimoe is also on drums & you see him on other songs in this show. Check the other clips from this show darthbahz loaded on YouTube & you can see Gregg. He is on this song too but they just didn't show him.

Mar 30, 2012 - Search on YT "1970 Allman brothers Duane on guitar". The Duane magic begins at 1:30. THAT is the Allman Bros. I am now done schooling you bitches.
bosbencd Says:
Mar 31, 2012 - I'd like to make a garauntee that both Greg and Duane are proud (in flesh and in spirit) to have these people on stage as "The Allman Brothers Band". Same goes for the likes of oteil and trucks.
mooneya Says:
Apr 2, 2012 - Thats Warren Haynes playing lead....so awesome
bobmango54 Says:
Apr 12, 2012 - There is no lead in the Allman Bros, they share.
696969Buster Says:
Apr 21, 2012 - That is clearly not DICKEY!! sorry!!!
pretty9reenpark4 Says:
Apr 21, 2012 - hes not got any facial hair pal.
frankinbklyn Says:
Apr 23, 2012 - First solo Warren, unison lead, then second solo Dickey, then unison lead back into the last verse/chorus of the song. They've had a few gtr players over the years, but until the Warren/Derek tandem they have now, Dickey was ALWAYS in the band! Note: funny how Warren came in doing the Duane parts, but when he returned to play with Derek, he was playing the Dickey parts (in the old stuff). Now THAT'S a guitar player!!!
frnkielove Says:
Apr 26, 2012 - Dickey shaved his mustache for this show. It certainly is him in the hat. Close your eyes and listen to his voice and his guitar if you don't believe. No one else can generate that tone and melodic playing...
inkey2 Says:
Apr 27, 2012 - it is dickey....he is just cleaned-up
poseidon26ful Says:
Apr 30, 2012 - dude if you are a real fan than you can see that it is dickey first you can see it at his tatoo,s on his arm and you can hear it on his guitar style believe me i have seen them 16 time live on concerts or somting it is dickey
420JWilson Says:
May 7, 2012 - If none of the Allman Brothers are playing (Greg), then it's not the Allman Bros band!
abstractexpressions Says:
May 9, 2012 - Is this "guitar" heaven?
boblackey1 Says:
May 13, 2012 - This is from the Austin City Limits show on PBS in 1995. I have the ENTIRE show on tape and Gregg IS playing organ and piano on this show!!!!! He even sings several songs including the last song they did that night which was "One Way Out". Dickey is playing the second solo and singing lead. Every now & then Dickey will shave is mustache. Also the guitar playing on the second solo IS Dickey! Nobody plays like Dickey. Like B. B. King, Dickey has is own style.
DA53562 Says:
