I don't think they're trying to be rude or cold, they just seem unused to how casual and laidback the format is compared to a lot of shows in the States. And then there's the humour differences - for example, the British/Irish love of puns vs. the way Americans groan at them...

Apr 11, 2012 - yea, also, american talk shows never have several guests on at the same time. i think the american guests feel like outsiders on a show like this, when everyone else is brit, and make references to things that the american guests have no way of knowing about. so they just smile and try not to look stupid when there's a joke they don't get.
