Mar 8, 2009 - Um, I thought the Assassination attemptWAS REAL.

booklover181 Says:

Mar 14, 2009 - The assassination attempt was real. During Victoria's first pregnancy, eighteen-year-old Edward Oxford attempted to assassinate the Queen while she was riding in a carriage with Prince Albert in London. Oxford fired twice, but both bullets missed. He was tried for high treason, but was acquitted on the grounds of insanity.

literarygenius09 Says:

Aug 12, 2009 - Rupert Friend is gorgeous in this film.

ShanniMc Says:

Aug 29, 2009 - There were actually like 7 assassination attempts

JamesH4K Says:

May 13, 2010 - Does anyone know who was playing the music in the background?

counterhon Says:

May 29, 2010 - There were many (I think over 5?) attempts. It's fake because Prince Albert is shot and nearly dies in the film, whereas nobody was ever wounded in the attempts. Queen Elizabeth was reportedly furious after enjoying the film throughout and ending it with that scene.

counterhon Says:

May 29, 2010 - Prince Albert and Queen Victoria were not ever wounded. In the film Albert nearly dies after he takes a bullet for Victoria. It's treacle and completely false.

ShanniMc Says:

May 30, 2010 - I am aware of that. I merely said that there were like seven attempts. But there was one time where Victoria was attacked by a man with a stick and was bruised up a bit.

meg1rudy Says:

Jun 9, 2010 - But it's not false, in terms of his character and personality. From what I've read about Albert and his feelings for Victoria, I believe he would've taken the bullet to save Victoria and their unborn child.

cafedeflorelefilm Says:

mikalero Says:

Sep 9, 2010 - He invented nothing. It was a true and actual event. : ) The stretch was int hat Albert was not struck during it.

EosHeliosSelene Says:

Oct 29, 2010 - yes, the attempt was real, but the movie's portrayal was altered. In the movie, the assassination attempt has Albert saving Victoria's life by taking the bullet for her. Although it is close to the truth- the bit about the attempt and Prince Albert pushing the Queen down- There are no reports of Prince Albert being injured. The director of the movie even confirms that bit was just for dramatic effect.

TheDorkyTwilight6 Says:

Dec 30, 2010 - I completely agree with you. 'Cept for the fact that you completely took that word for word from Queen Victoria's Wikipedia page.

Dec 30, 2010 - I completely agree with you. 'Cept for the fact that you stole that word for word from Queen Victoria's Wikipedia Page. Plagiarism's not cool.

Feb 6, 2011 - This movie was so moving.

wisepop1 Says:

Feb 8, 2011 - I believe it was also featured in Love Actually if that gives any hints but I'm not sure of the name.

DestinysNinja Says:

Nov 18, 2011 - is right, there was an assassination attempt, and Albert DID throw himself in front of the queen, but wasn't hit. The writer just added that for dramatic effect to show his devotion.
