If you have NO record of mental health issues or domestic violence or a felony conviction then you can buy a gun but many gun owners can lose their mind over relationships or other situations and use that gun to hurt people. Look at how poorly all of the anti-war movies of the last 7-8 years have done (there have been plenty) to see how, for these people, putting out a leftist message is more important than making good, enjoyable, or even profitable entertainment. If Maher was exactly the same person but with a conservative bent, he would never be employed by anyone in the entertainment industry and you know it.
