Dreamdancer11 Says:
Jul 25, 2011 - Since the backing track is a blues progression even if you sweep like a madman its still blues....if the backing was a thundering metal progression and the guy was playing double stops all the time it would still sound like metal..get it inside your head.Plus there is no slow speed high speed rule..those are just bullshit talk from purist hacks that still live three decades ago....if your heart wants you to go fast you go fast....thats music...doing what your heart tells you.

Jul 31, 2011 - ....Ok there are no set rules but there are guidlines, otherwise you may as well get rid if the 5 box theory that every blues player develops. They are basically the blues scales. If you play blues using just pentatonic minor scales for example it will never sound like the blues but you may get close to the Gilmour sound, (that isn't a criticism because Gilmout does mix pentatonic and blues scales and does it well as we all know.
Dreamdancer11 Says:
Aug 1, 2011 - You are missing the point. The end result is defined as blues..or not blues by the rhythm not the solo.If the rhythm is bossa nova then its bossa nova whatever you play over it.Same with reggae metal or anything......if you play a 12 bar blues progression and i solo over it only with sweeping arpeggios then its still blues cause of what you play(rhythm) not what i play(solo).
Dreamdancer11 Says:
Aug 1, 2011 - And to make you get it....say i play a standard double stop bluesy little riff in a blues progression and then i play the exact same riff in a hard rock/metal one.Do you think it ll sound the same? not at all..and why is that? cause the backing is different.it ll sound like blues in one case and like hard rock in the other cause of the rhythm. That is what is defining things.
Nickofaballooni Says:
Aug 1, 2011 - ...hmmmm, send me an example of sweeping arpeggios that sound like blues and I might start to understand where you're coming from.... It's the overall package that makes blues and that includes blues rhythm and blues scales.
Nickofaballooni Says:
Aug 1, 2011 - .... we obviousely disagree, no problem.
