Apr 22, 2012 - Mogley the fallacious spammer didn't come to converse or even 'win hearts and minds', not with such sullen overkill. Just came here to pontificate and peddle his snakeoil. Something about Darwin obsesses him deeply - he is just a creationist in fancy trappings.

Apr 28, 2012 - What about the moral people who were crucifying people for there beliefs. Maybe we should kill you for not believing in witches smart guy!

GrowMasterGeneral Says:

Apr 28, 2012 - Yeah what about the "moral" people who were crucifying people for there beliefs? The people that were doing the crucifying were religious too. That only further proves my point that religion is hardly the moral paragon it is suppose to be. Let me guess, are you trying to point out examples like stalin? Atheists can be philanthropists or tyrants and everything in between. But it is NOT because of their atheism that they are either one. Atheism has no code, set of values, or practices to follow.

May 4, 2012 - Dawkins' best moment 1:06:23 by far :)

DMilbury Says:

May 7, 2012 - Atheism has no code, set of values, or practices to follow. That is exactly right! Thus allowing a person to create their own set of values and codes to follow (ie. Stalin and the likes). A persons underlying world view has alot to do with how they behave. Given the right circumstances and personality you get someone like Stalin, which is no deviation from their belief system and perfectly allowable. If a Christian did the same thing, that would be a deviation from their values and codes.

GrowMasterGeneral Says:

May 7, 2012 - " That is exactly right! Thus allowing a person to create their own set of values and codes to follow (ie. Stalin and the likes)."... Yes, and the same goes for a philanthropist. Atheism does not define the morals and actions a person takes. It has no bearing on morality. My non belief in god has no more effect on my morality than does my non belief in unicorns. Your argument is analogous to saying that stalin's non belief in unicorns is the root of his immorality.

DMilbury Says:

May 8, 2012 - I think you miss the force of the argument. Everyones world view has an impact on how they live. To say it doesn't would be to say that nothing has an impact on how people live. Atheism does not define morals and actions, but the belief system has no moral parameters. There is nothing wrong with what Stalin did in an atheistic framework. What is there to say he was wrong?

atheistexchristian Says:

May 15, 2012 - I sat completely enthralled by all the information from Steven Pinker ! This man from Montreal is brilliant ! I speak three languages myself, so I was particularly interested in his information about "prelanguage" ,the evolution of language and it's complex genetic basis. All this natural evolutionary history can only be fully appreciated when you let go of any kind of mythological god and the concept that a xo called "god" created us just as we are today.

Scientisticsoviet Says:

May 16, 2012 - "There is nothing wrong with what Stalin did in an atheistic framework"Что же именно Сталин?

Scientisticsoviet Says:

May 16, 2012 - An a more important note, you touch an important idea: Namely, that the "rightness" or "wrongness" of an action depends on the moral/normative assumption(s) one holds. In other words, one requires a framework to work within to have the potential to answers questions like: "SHOULD one eat apples?".However, there does not seem to exist a sound ultimate metaethical deductive argument for one framework over another, leading to a situation of moral relativism or in my view, Non-congnitivism.
