Description:
http://www.scmp.com/videoFollowing the success of this year's action blockbuster Ip Man, biopic of the legendary Wing Chun grandmaster and mentor to Bruce Lee, a revival of the Chinese martial art has taken Hong Kong by storm. In this video we meet sifu Ip Chun, son and successor of none other than Ip Man. He currently teaches classes at the humble Ving Tsun Athletic Association's headquarters in Mong Kok which was established in 1967. Ip Chun prefers to see Wing Chun as a health regimen rather than just a form of combat. The spry 84-year-old tells us about all things Wing Chun and his thoughts on the future of the martial art in today's society.

May 25, 2012 - I'm an MMA fan but I've decided to study Wing Chun Kung Fu. Self Defense has nothing to with it (although being in great shape and having sharpe reflexes cant hurt) and I've lived my entire life without getting into street fights so I'm not worried about that either. Its the philosophy and the life style that attracts me. Even if its not practitical in the UFC I'm never going to fight in the UFC so what does that matter

cyaxhf Says:

May 25, 2012 - And, Ip Man died 1972.

MrPatheticUsername Says:

May 27, 2012 - i would like to do wing chun but to really master this you have to do it for years and turn your life into wing chun to become really good, and i dont really want that :/

bl4ckshar3 Says:

May 27, 2012 - 葉準 can still kick some ass

cyaxhf Says:

May 27, 2012 - Originally, Wing Chun was created to be simple and easy to learn, so that you don't have to spend 20 years practicing to master it. The entire system can be learnt in much shorter period, unlike other Wushu styles. Do a few min research, you will get satisfying answers. The "empty hand" system would take only a few years, if you practice regularly, while weapons techniques and chi sao applications could take a bit longer. Though it could take less. Don't set your goals too high, and train. ;)

LittleDanzig Says:

May 28, 2012 - I would shit myself to train under him.

RoninSamurai100 Says:

May 28, 2012 - martial arts is about respect not fighting records and mma bullshit.... japanese jujutsu, judo, pencak silat, escrima, muay boran, muay thai was all about destroying ur opponent

ThePsyco234 Says:

May 28, 2012 - oh i had no idea it was made to be easy to learn because usually those chinese fighting sports take years and years, thanks man but im not gonna do wing chun it looks really cool but i'd rather go boxing :/

GodziraRules Says:

May 28, 2012 - "martial arts is about respect not fighting records" Wow...amazing...People goes to dojo to get some respect lessons.I"m sorry but some people just tried to learn to kick someone"s ass.jiu-jitsu,judo,muay are competetive martial arts."Comepetetive" means effective. No competition-no effectivness.

cyaxhf Says:

May 28, 2012 - Yeah, all other Wushu styles (that I know of) require very long time to learn plus even more to master completely. Wing Chun was designed to be simple and easy to learn since the Qing dynasty overthrew the Ming dynasty, and the Ming revolutionaries needed a fast way to learn how to fight.Anyway, everyone makes their own choices and learn whatever they like, no one can tell you it's wrong. :D

cyaxhf Says:

May 28, 2012 - Partially correct and partially wrong. All of the stated arts were designed for fighting, disabling and killing your opponent. This includes Wing Chun too. It is, in fact, a lethal art, ever since it was designed. The core principle itself concentrates on attacking opponents center line, nose, throat, plexus, groins, also disable them by attacking the eyes and breaking kneecaps. Not harmless at all, and its original form can never be a sport discipline, not with all its types of counterattacks.
