An inch at a time, they eventually wanted more pay and benefits, while doing less and less work, until they were being paid a lot of money without having to do anything. But it costs money and energy to create that fuel. Realistically, it's not economical or environmentally viable and it'd still make the Big 3 on the border of collapse due to its own obsolecence.
