Jul 14, 2011 - This is a response to your comment on non-circular gears. You posted your comment over a year ago so you may have forgotten it. If it were possible to increase or decrease the output torque with some form of gear configuration it would then be possible to construct a perpetual motion machine. One way would be to arrange them in a circle and use universal joints to connect their drive shafts together. If timed correctly, each one would add torque to the next one, indefinitely.

If you wish to rotate axles in a square through a planetary gearing system. one off the top of my head would be, put packing plastic on an axle off each cog and place a forklift palate in the middle, it will evenly wrap the plastic around, while being more compact and consistent then a circular design.
