Sep 12, 2010 - Respect to the programmers who brought R-Type to C64 and AMIGA. The AMIGA port is closer to the original. The C64 lacks of limitations in graphics. But what I don't understand: they need the license by IREM and why didn't they get the original code and graphics? The AMIGA version looks like an adaption of the original pattern but it is not a 100% port of the brilliant balanced gameplay of the original. Check the actual iPod/Pad version. This is the original but some small things are missing.

Sep 20, 2010 - This was one of my favorites on the Amiga. Thanks for posting man.

Sep 27, 2010 - Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the people who did this great conversion the same people who made Denaris - an R-Type rip-off - and did it so well they actually were hired for this?

janmansde3dede Says:

Oct 22, 2010 - Yes, But of course not without a lawsuit ;)

janmansde3dede Says:

Oct 22, 2010 - Yes, but a X68000 wasn't a computer you could buy for a mere 500 Dollars/Euros, And this port isn't perfect NOT because the Amiga isn't powerfulBut the Amiga can't do a perfect port because it differs in hardware, the X68000is identical to the arcade machine therefor much closer,And Stardust shows that Amiga kicks ass ! >:) (is there a game that rivals it ? on the X68?)

Nov 5, 2010 - I don't know how many times I played this game. Millions. One of the few games I completed on the Amiga, probably: that computer had some TOUGH games.

Nov 12, 2010 - I'm awful at space shooters the only one I beat was SUPER R-Type on the SNES.

Nov 21, 2010 - Disapointing version , was expecting more from Amiga !

JayArgonaut Says:

Dec 24, 2010 - I'm forced to agree and I'm an Amiga die-hard who loved this game. Compared to the arcade original and considering the talent of the Rainbow Arts/Factor 5 programmers, it's a disappointing conversion. Far from dreadful but falls short. The magazines back then got carried & away hyped this as being a flawless translation. There's loads of enemies and features missing and yet they're all in the PC Engine/TurboGrafx version and that was far less powerful than an unexpanded A500!

JayArgonaut Says:

Dec 24, 2010 - For Amiga heads who still play this on their real machines, you can use the Sega controllers (or anything with two independent buttons) with this game and fire with button 1 and attach/detach "The Force" with button 2. I'm shocked that people found this difficult. I used to storm through this on one credit and without cheating. You just have to memorise the patterns. The arcade machine with the DIP switches on hard, that's tough! R-Type II for the Amiga, that was insanely difficult.

Apr 3, 2011 - ooooooooooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

OtaKing77077 Says:

Jun 18, 2011 - Whoa...! What the...?This is really not using the Amiga's power at all, is it? No parallax scrolling on the stars, black background instead of the parallax mecha landscape inside the base... and the music is okay but hardly at the level of the arcade or the iconic C64. Speaking of which, even the C64 version had the proper parallax and whatnot...The Sega Master System version had a tiny tiny fraction of the Amiga's processing power, yet still has the backgrounds and parallax stars, etc...

Oct 6, 2011 - What a game. Still, too difficult.

pepeladouche Says:

Mar 5, 2012 - Good game, pity they just ported the st version and tacked on some music. The Amiga was capable of so much more.

SquareWaveHeaven Says:

May 6, 2012 - I always thought that last level was a terrible anticlimax. Favourite level is the green battered spaceship, and of course the first level :)
