The performance, production, arrangement & mood of that recording oozes raw passion & love while maintaining the grittiness & gravitas that is Tom Waits. I'm a music producer, I know how hard it is to capture an impassioned love song without it sounding overly sentimental or corny. The original recording is one of the greatest examples of navigating that fine line I've ever heard.
