Description:
This video post is all about grafting. We're reposting this because, frankly, it's awesome. It's such an interesting subject, that we couldn't resist reposting it, even though Jeremy drank a quart of Slivovitz the night before and looks about like the ghost of Christmas Past in a pair of shorts. In this installment of the Hawkes Wine Video Blog, we look at T-budding. T-budding is the remarkable process of converting grapevines from producing one variety of grape to another. For those who haven't seen the way grafting works, it seems strange to the point of magical. Check out video to see how it all goes down. . .

May 15, 2010 - You may have saved my vines! I had cordon snap in my little backyard vineyard aftermath of a huge gusty windstorm, and I happen to have budwood from UC Davis, so guess what happens this weekend! You got it! Surgery. Got the budwood, got the tape, a sharp knife... that Touriga Nacional and that Cabernet will now have a branch of Syrah!! Thanks so much!!

Feb 12, 2012 - Hello there from Texas backyard grower. My question is: when you do the bark cut to insert the bud,do you only expose the cambium or you also cut through it and open it up like the bark(or perhaps together with bark). I am asking, because it is not clear, how the nutrients flow from uninterrupted cambium into the bud? Other methods mostly cut the cambium on both sides and align the cambium of the bud with the stump...so the broken capillaries sort of align and the 'juice' can flow...
