Nov 16, 2009 - A yummo recipe! All your recipes are true user friendly!I was wondering if this would be less fattening if Bisquick or better still Bisquick Heart Smart mix were used.BiLL
FatalyBlue Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Potatoes are people, they're just like locusts, they stay in the land forever and come out and bug us too. just like atlantis

May 6, 2010 - OMG!! Pancake around fruit? Can someone tell him what clafoutis really is?
lop7685 Says:
Jul 20, 2010 - claFOOtee. fruit with pancake. he seems to know what hes talking about...NOT
lop7685 Says:
Jul 20, 2010 - it is actually meant to be made with berries, so go on ahead. i use strawberries, for example.
GrimsFedora Says:
Sep 9, 2010 - While a clafoutis is technically made with cherries (I guess that would make this a flaugnarde?) , and is as much custard as pancake, this is a very tasty and simple recipe and As far as videos go, Mark Bittman is always a pleasure to watch. (actually, I can't believe he passeed up the opportunity to say '"flaugnarde.")
iononcentro Says:
Oct 2, 2010 - Yes, clafoutis is with black cherries only and flaugnarde is with all the rest of fruit. I'm sure this recipe will taste good but unfortunately has little to do with Clafoutis which is made out of white bread soked in milk. Yolks, sugar, butter and almond powder are added and whisked up. Last, meringue is incorporated to soften the mixture which will be poured on top of the cherries.Batters are for pancakes...not for desserts from Limousin region in France.

Jan 8, 2011 - "You can call it a freedom pancake"Are you kidding me?

Mar 7, 2011 - Very good!

Jul 17, 2011 - He was so ho-hum about it all; totally devoid of passion. You don't have to debase a nation or its cuisine to make it appealing to americans; some of us americans are actually french.
yyunha Says:
Jul 29, 2011 - is it "debasing" if he's trying to teach and introduce people to it? and this guy's life is food. He's actually mad legit, really knows what he's talking about. He's a well known and respected writer and critic amongst the "food publishing" community. He's definitely not "devoid of passion"
thisherecat2 Says:
Aug 18, 2011 - Clafouti is fancy? The idea of pastry in America is perverted. And this man's accent is painful.
anomalousclouds Says:
Sep 15, 2011 - All the nasty comments prove the collective lack of a sense of humor.
L88ker Says:
Dec 12, 2011 - He's just a New Yorker. Relax.
phil2u48 Says:
Dec 29, 2011 - In Normandy, we use brugnons = large purple plums. DELICIEUX
phil2u48 Says:
Dec 29, 2011 - . . . and it is not "fancy", it is a country dessert.

Apr 7, 2009 - I do not understand your problem, clafotís are exactly what he says they are: fruit baked in a batter, which--no matter what your problem is--resembles pancake batter. Do you have a problem with someone being approachable? Wow, what a concept, Mr Bittman is trying to speak in a way that people understand. Get off your high-horse unless you want to teach us from your awe inspiring culinary wisdom.
