Mar 9, 2012 - A few years if I remember the Chinese were considering just that a blockade of Taiwan. They would of done it if the Taiwanese had voted for full independence from main land China. China has already retaken Hong Kong and Macau in 1997 from the West, and so its only a matter of time before they'll want Taiwan back in their control. Mind you will be so financially indebted to the Chinese by then, that I don't think we would go to war with China was to invade Taiwan.

Mar 9, 2012 - In reality most of the nuc subs would be kept in reserve and wouldn't be used in the first nuclear exchange. They've been given orders that in two months time they hear nothing from their leaders in Washington or Moscow, they must autmomatically fire their nuclear missiles at pre- arranged targets.

Mar 13, 2012 - If there ever is a NUCLEAR WAR the last place these YANKS would want to go to would be AUSTRALIA, the US has a military base just south of ALICE SPRINGS that is the eyes and ears of any ICBM attack towards the USA, PINE GAP. Its an early warning radar base in central AUSTRALIA. If the Chinese or Russian launch first they'll not only take out Alice Springs but every entire capital city as well. Australia would be reduced to a radioactive wasteland. WHY the fuck come here. Go to ANTARCTICA lads.
platypusblue Says:
Mar 13, 2012 - Continued.... And if we were the last safe haven on earth after a Northern hemisphere nuclear show down, these YANK SAILORS would be as welcome in AUSTRALIA as a paedophile at any kindergarten or school by the teachers and parents alike. The reception would be nothing short of deadly, very hostile. I would not want to be an out and proud American in Australia if a radiation cloud was coming to kill us all. I would stay very quiet if was that American.
Professor6871 Says:
Mar 20, 2012 - I agree the premise of the book and movie that radiation from nuclear weapons would spread over the world via wind patterns and stay permanently like posion gas is now out of date. The book was of its times when nuclear hydrogen bombs tests were taking places like Australia and the South Pacific. In the Pacific there were large amounts contamination of radiation from these large explosions. It was only natural to think that in a nuke war the same would happen to wider area.
Professor6871 Says:
Mar 20, 2012 - Imagine the last place on earth would be Australia I think would get vaporized myself.

Mar 24, 2012 - I love the touching scenes when like when the couple with their child ended their lives, that was not in the original movie that much.

Apr 2, 2012 - The remake is a million times better than the original!

TomBarrister Says:
Apr 6, 2012 - In 1959, it was believable that radiation could linger in the atmosphere for years, killing all life. In 2000, this was known to be untrue, yet this miniseries followed that premise anyway. Also, as others have stated, the 1959 version had more class, dignity, and better characterization and is more faithful to the book. The 2000 version is coarse and ball-bat in nature, which I suppose is what modern audiences want.
2vintage68 Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - Truly horrible remake which demonstrates the advanced state of decivilization we have reached in a mere 53 years since the original was made. Adieu, western civilization.
MrTiagoorlando Says:
Apr 7, 2012 - snaaaaaaaaake
Cha4k Says:
Apr 11, 2012 - "..this miniseries followed that premise anyway."Well if they changed it then it would be a totally different story."..and is more faithful to the book"So they should have changed the basic premise, but at the same time been more faithful to the original premise?Anyway, I don't mind if its not scientifically accurate. Its a good story with a good message. Even if this version isnt as good as the book or the first movie.

Apr 12, 2012 - You can that again. This really sucked!

Apr 12, 2012 - I wish I hadn't multi-task watched this with a "Rockford Files" episode on Netflix. All I got out of the story was Rockford investigating why James Woods started a nuclear war and got cornered by gansters who threw down 200 and told him to stop the search or radioactivity would destroy Australia. Then they kicked the headlights out on his nuclear submarine before everyone died, and she said, "your fired," and Jim said, "Let's go have a hotdog." The End.
AngelCintiaRockgirl Says:
Apr 12, 2012 - ...and that hottie, Donna (British-woman) what's-her-name, Anderson. Yeah, the writing personifies our world today. Everyone's on the shallow end of the pool. Nobody acts or talk like they did in those movies, anymore. I liked the old one better. I was only able to get through watching this by doing about eight other things at the same time.
TomBarrister Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - Most movies must, of necessity, stray from the books; otherwise, they won't draw viewers. A masterpiece is of no use to the producers if it flounders at the box office. The movie and miniseries were tailored to the audiences of their times. The 1959 version is subtle and lets the viewers fill in many of the blanks, the 2000 version is explicit and leaves less to the imagination.
Fojo1936 Says:
Apr 29, 2012 - The Origional was one of my alltime favorite movies but I really loved this version. Just my personal choice...great job.

TheNostromo70 Says:
Mar 6, 2012 - Only complaint I have about the original movie is the overdoing of Waltzing Matilda towards the end, got annoying after a while. It's like that was the only Australian song the US film makers knew at the time. Prefer the remake as it had more depth and kept me interested for the entire length.
