If you watch the progression from about 2006 to 2012, his voice has gradually starting moving back to the earlier style, now he is only missing the whiny nasally sound. Probably the reason he abandoned that whine in the first place is because it does sound a bit childish and youthful, and Bob Rock had him convinced that it sounded awful. If Billy Corgan can still sing like that, so can Raine. He just doesn't.
