Sep 21, 2011 - Peter Weir is a genius filmmaker. His works are original and not cheap imitations. He puts his unique signature on each production and it shows. AMPAS failed the industry by not recognizing him with an Oscar for his direction. Two of his films - "Fearless" and the haunting "Picnic at Hanging Rock" - are in my Top 10 favorites. Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez gave their finest performances to date. The "tool box" scene is one of the most gripping I've ever seen.

Oct 16, 2011 - Peter Weir is such an underrated director. Master and Commander and this are both absolute classics and both are being more or less forgotten with time, a real shame.

Nov 11, 2011 - Thank you for uploading this. I saw this when I was a kid one day on TV and I never forgot it. Such a wonderful film.

Nov 16, 2011 - The last strawberry is very symbolic. There was a reference to forbidden fruit at the start and we have watched him eat them with no reaction during the film. During this time, he believed he was invulnerable. He became detached, and isolated from his family. It was his friendship with Perez that allowed him to feel love and connect to the real world and thus, feel vulnerable once again when that love was not reciprocated. He has now come full circle and the love of his wife saves him

Jan 1, 2012 - I thought Master and Commander was a Ridley Scott movie, but I was wrong! You do wonder why PW hasn't become a household name - so many brilliant and watchable films, with a great range of subject material. Easily my favourite director: varied, yet consistently interesting, with stories that stay with you.

Feb 2, 2012 - wow what a great movie!! one of the few great movies about human mind and emotions. It sits right next to Deer Hunter side by side.

Feb 8, 2012 - Henryk Gorecki Symphony #3 aka Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. That piece alone is devastating enough --- then to get this scene. Incredible. Yet I believe.

nobodady1 Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - Didn't you get that Max was fucked up, and wasn't going to return to earth the easy way --- with a bunch of professional therapy and the like. He completed the cycle --- saved and was saved. A full human.

Apr 2, 2012 - What is the song that is played in this scene?

xensboy1 Says:

Apr 3, 2012 - This is my all-time favorite movie. Jeff Bridges as Max Klein is in a way a mixture of Jesus and Don Quixote, reflecting what each of us feels regarding life and death. This final scene brings tears because that plane is our life. Whatever love we feel for our fellow human beings comes up when we see images of tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, violent acts and devastation. The music is amazing and the actors do a splendid job. Many kudos to director Peter Weir for this haunting helpful masterpiece.
