I humbly suggest you listen to and watch Jorge Cziffra, for his superior technical skills, and Oscar Peterson, for his improvisation technique and mixed genre. Also, I think it's good for a person of musical skill to listen to Charlie Byrd Parker, as much as time allows. You cannot fail to benefit and improve, though these three legendary contributors. Emily is very unique and very special. We are blessed to live in a day and time where we can see and hear her talents through online media as well as television. As far as burning out at 18, from what I've seen and read, her parents and grandmother have done a remarkable job of keeping her "normal".

Improvise the patterns as you may, you will find every piece of music ever written on any instrument, borrows from these. You can only expand your understanding and capability and your composure will change, as you recognize new patterns. List would be very aware of these, as would Chopin. You will have to search for "drum rudiments" and you will find there are 40+
