Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2009/05/23/Marcus_Chown_in_Conversation_with_Fred_WatsonMarcus Chown, author of Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You: A Guide to the Universe, discusses the mechanics behind quantum computers, explaining that they function by having atoms exist in multiple places at once. He predicts that quantum computers will be produced within 20 years.-----The two towering achievements of modern physics are quantum theory and Einsteins general theory of relativity. Together, they explain virtually everything about the world in which we live. But almost a century after their advent, most people havent the slightest clue what either is about. Radio astronomer, award-winning writer and broadcaster Marcus Chown talks to fellow stargazer Fred Watson about his book Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You. - Australian Broadcasting CorporationMarcus Chown is an award-winning writer and broadcaster. Formerly a radio astronomer at the California Institute of Technology, he is now cosmology consultant of the weekly science magazine New Scientist. The Magic Furnace, Marcus' second book, was chosen in Japan as one of the Books of the Year by Asahi Shimbun. In the UK, the Daily Mail called it "a dizzy page-turner with all the narrative devices you'd expect to find in Harry Potter". His latest book is called Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You.

Sep 18, 2011 - fairly soon silicon chip based computers will reach the max processing power, so a computer bought then will be as powerful as a computer 50 years into the future. However, quantum computers could process near infinite calculations per second. in otherwords, with a quantum computer, you could simulate every single particle in the universe in a computer model on a laptop the size of your mobile phone, and even smaller. or just play crisis 2 without lag, which is even better xD

Sep 21, 2011 - i love how back then we though aye 20 years and maybe the public could have them, when now you can even buy one!!(fair enough it cost 10million but it still fast at doing what it does then any other computer) but they still are on sale to the public(but ya its pretty much usless and cost 10million to buy:P) but we can get one lol
messi996 Says:
Sep 21, 2011 - its not that unbelieveable complex to grasp(the maths and everything else is where you have to be a borderlined genius to understand it:P also lets face it no one truely understands any of this until one theory has been proven for all we no one day the hole world will be running on these computers and we still mite not be able to explain exactly how it works:P which is a bit scary to say the least)

Sep 21, 2011 - what i have learnt m8 you need any info its probably on youtube(and trust me youll find all you need on quantum theory on youtube easily, not the very complex stuff but enough to understand this:D)

Sep 26, 2011 - But can it run Crysis?
Domzdream Says:
Oct 7, 2011 - Um....here's the thing.I'm all for parallel universes etc etc. But no matter how much mathematics says that it exists, they're still left with actual proof of having to show us that it actually exists, not because maths says that it does.
Domzdream Says:
Oct 7, 2011 - I love this comment. hehe.Yes, Crysis is a terribly demanding game. In fact this reminds me. I'm meant to be buying the the asus 590 gtx today. No, really. Thanks for the reminder.

Nov 27, 2011 - Quantum mechanics explains a lot of phenomena. It has held stable for the past 70+ years. Quantum entanglement, tunneling, superposition have all been proven.
udoloh Says:
Dec 3, 2011 - If the planets behave as if they orbit the sun, it doesn't mean that they actually do orbit the sun.
wrcousert Says:
Dec 23, 2011 - If the many worlds theory is true, will we be able to use quantum computers to communicate with people in parallel universes?

Feb 5, 2012 - What if the parallel reality is also using the same quantum particle in a parallel quantum computer. Or what if that quantum particle was part of a living person in the other reality? The calculations could be messed up or the other person with the particle could get some kind of tumor or something.
drquantum84 Says:
Feb 15, 2012 - "What if the parallel reality is also using the same quantum particle in a parallel quantum computer" This may or may not be the case but there would be no way to tell."what if that quantum particle was part of a living person in the other reality?" This may or may not be the case but there would be no way to tell."The calculations could be messed up" No"the other person with the particle could get some kind of tumor" No

Mar 16, 2012 - i want one,i am one lol.wen we know and understand outcome that may occur.we are in fact looking in other quantum worlds.made and created from are conscientiousness.from our outcome exist these worlds, that we can access before hand. .cool vid...peace!
