Nov 16, 2010 - thanks very much - the clips are aimed at people who need the basics. I think a lot of stuff on youtube is more suitable for those at a more advanced stage.

Jan 25, 2011 - at 0:13 when she is going to take a breath...she turns the whole body... im not sure if its the right to do cuz I've learned to turn only the head...not the whole body
swimwithoutstress Says:
Jan 25, 2011 - most teachers recommend learners just to turn the head but this puts considerable strain on the neck.

Jun 24, 2011 - Hello. I decided to learn your method because it looks like a gentle way that that I liked right away. Also somthing about your voice sound very realxing and appealing to me. I now can swim on the side and change from side to side three times and then stay on my back. I tried to "patch" these triplets into one flow and swim all the way, but in doing so I have only little time to breath between the triplets and after one or two sets I can't go on. Do you have any suggetions? Thanks you
swimwithoutstress Says:
Jun 25, 2011 - Hi Eranlandau, it sounds like you're doing well. I would say you should be happy for now to rest in the breathing position and find your balance; to find a place to have a breather without straining your neck. As this improves, it will give you confidence and you'll begin to find a comfortable place from where you can take an unrushed, relaxed breath without resting for so long in the position.

Oct 12, 2011 - I'd love to be able to swim like this. I've struggled for years, recently found out that my kick was ineffective due to inflexible ankles.
swimwithoutstress Says:
Oct 13, 2011 - Don't be put off by being told you have inflexible ankles. It's what you're thinking about the kick, not how flexible your ankles are, that counts. If you can walk, your ankles are probably flexible enough for a decent front crawl kick. Remember you don't need to do anything with the ankles to make your feet like flippers - do nothing with your ankles and the water will move your feet (however limited your ankle flexibility is) and you'll move.

Mar 9, 2012 - Good luck with it Anne, it's all about finding balance and gliding.

Mar 24, 2012 - The problem when I swim,my balance is way short because when I do the front crawl,It shows that I can't move but Im good at swimming though.
ravi28948 Says:
Mar 25, 2012 - @swimwithoutstress: It looks soooooo simple, but it is NOT. I have been trying to swim the front crawl this way but without even an inch of success. Can you please guide me step by step? Like "do this first and only when you get it right do this then" sort of advice. Where should I start?
swimwithoutstress Says:
Mar 25, 2012 - It's difficult to learn to swim from a video clip or a book. I would start with getting you to glide with a nice free neck, looking at the bottom of the pool and then add some kicking, with nice loose ankles, pressing the water with the fronts of your legs. The next step is to do it with one arm extended but relaxed and allow the body to rotate but keep your head still. Have a look at the other front crawl videos including the dry land one and the ones where I'm working with people learning it.

Mar 25, 2012 - @swimwithoutstress: Thanks a lot.
ravi28948 Says:
Apr 9, 2012 - @swimmingwithoutstress: For the front crawl the coaches say: Don't bend your legs in knees, vigorous and faster kicks propel faster. In this clip I see you both bending legs in the knees and your kicking too is gentle, yet you are moving fast.....so....what is your secret?
swimwithoutstress Says:
Apr 9, 2012 - The kick needs to come from the hips but there has to be some bend in the knees so 'keep the legs straight' is a bad instruction. Avoid bicycling. As the leg comes back ready for the kick, keep it gentle, back of legs soft. Looseness in the ankles is important, feet like flippers but not by doing anything with them. The worst thing you can do is try hard to make yourself move. See if you can move forward just a little bit, even very slowly, with as little effort as possible just to get the idea.
