Mar 21, 2012 - Yeah, even the 1985 earthquake wasnt in Mexico city, it was in Guerrero, but because the city is built above a dry lake, the earthquake got magnified by the "jelly" terrain, which caused it to be stronger, which is why there was much more damage there.

That's why there's a jelly effect, why it was worse there. And that was, plus, mainly in the downtown and some other neighbourhoods, though mainly the ones in the South were the safest due to volcanic rocks that make up the biggest part of the terrain.
