Ed Alleyne-Johnson Busking Electric Violin in Chester UK - May 2006Fantastic - This is perhaps the best street performance I have ever witnessed. Reminiscent of Jean Luc Ponte's visceral fusion sound. This is in the city of Chester near Wales. Chester has perhaps the only double decker shopping plaza streets, with a second level up off the street within the buildings, balconies running all the way down the streets. jablesj comments - "They were made by the victorians so that rich people would not get wet while out in the rain." The sound is unaltered from the original and was emancipated at great volume in this old town.Ed uses the looper and pedals to great effect. There are no overdubs. Incredible he commanded this fantastic show all by himself, I stood enraptured with all the hair on my body standing on end, grin stretched wide. You can see where he looked up to see my ebullient smile just before he grins and kicks in the distortion. This has been a tremendous inspiration for me. I had never heard him or heard of him before this performance. Ed is awesome! I got some albums of his from the web since hearing this. I hope I can see him again one day.

I don't mean to blow my own horn (goodness knows if I could, I WOULD) but I think you'll find more people listen to "ASHLEY MACISAAC" than a perisher like Ed the busker!If anyone would be jealous it would be the likes of him, who would turn green with envy at my playing.Just look at the record sales for "ASHLEY MACISAAC", and my shows worldwide (huge ticket sales: HUGE!).

That's where you're wrong mister.It's not 'more notes per minute', it's the quality and the ability to play exciting music rather than a slow-coach playing elevator music that doesn't add up musically even.Listen to other vids and you'll hear pieces of different speeds than devil in the kitchen. Beautiful airs and other tunes. Gaelic players differ greatly. Ed isn't one thing nor another. It's pure shite.

Feb 6, 2012 - @gidgetsdigitalgadget yes I did hear "Devil In the Kitchen" and that's why I feel so bad for you... you obviously have this idea in your head that you are a great musician but anyone who listens to your music can see that it's very amateurish. as a musician I'm sorry to tell you this because it might hurt, but your music is not creative or compelling at all. that's why you're so obsessed with Ed, pure jealousy.... and "obsessed" is the only accurate word for it.

Even if he was any good, why would that matter to me? First of all, Ed sounds like an amateur. I've heard loads of children play in that genre much better than Ed. He didn't open at the Olympic games did he? He didn't open for White Stripes did he? He can't play the violin, period. It's very childish playing.

I simply responded to someone who said "awesome violinist", and Ed simply isn't awesome, by any stretch. He really doesn't make "music", he's only treading water over a bunch of nonsensical loops. Anyone can do that. Very few can do what I can do. It's not like Bieber who is a fabrication. I worked hard to achieve my success. I don't have to busk.

I have seen his youtube performance of 'devil in the kitchen' & 'sleeping maggie' & it's ok, as long as you like Gaelic music but if you've seen one gaelic fiddler you've seen them all. He seems to think that the more notes played per minute makes for a better player. We should put a comment on his youtube channel directing viewers to a good fiddler, Ed
