Description:
One of the first Air Force Squadron made videos. This one is about the arrival of the "new" North American F-86F Sabre jet. This was made by the 526th FBS (Fighter Bomber Squadron),"The Black Knights". This film was made at a USAFE base in Germany in 1953. I was aware this video existed and eventually found it to post here, because my dad was a "Geiger Tiger". The "Geiger Tigers" were the 498th FIS (Fighter Interceptor Squadron) and flew th F-86D model. The F-86 "D" model was know as the Sabredog. The "Tigers" had a motto to which in part said, "We can beat any man, from any land, at any game that he can name, for any amount that he can count". So the "Tigers" were not going to sit by and let lessor squadrons take the limelight. So the "Tigers" soon produced their own movie, titled, "Oh How They Flew". That video is also available on my page here on youtube. The "Tigers" movie became an Air Force hit, achieving almost "cult like" status. So great was the demand for their film, that the Air Force hired Hollywood professionals to re-make the movie for mass distribution within the Air Force. There are probably only 3 or 4 locations in the world that have both of these videos. I am proud to one of those.This video is dedicated to Maj. Gen. Jones E. Jun 2, 2011 - No big deal, Yeager flew an SR-71 as a VIP, 1983. Saw your/this film in UPT (pilot training) 1975 during one of our academic classes. Yeager lives/lived near Beale AFB where the SR-71 flew. He could be seen around the area, getting gas, waiting for ride to Edwards (at Base Ops for hop in a jet) to speak, signing books for the Flight Doc for people when he came around, etc. Named a road to the base after him. Thanks for posting the film.

Jun 8, 2011 - I got a question here. I'm pretty sure some F-86F's had an enlarged wing with no slats; some had slats -- were they fitted with an enlarged wing the same size as the one without slats? Or were they fitted with an F-86E's wing with modified slats, or a wing somewhere in between between the F-86E and F-86F (the non slatted model) with modified slats?Yes the F-86F is the most confusing model for me to remember...

Jun 15, 2011 - I thoroughly enjoyed your video of the F86. I used to watch them fly over Fargo North Dakota as a kid when I visited my grandparents.. The Air Guard flew quite a variety of aircraft over the years there...and got to see some of their aircraft up close up through my days attending college and AFROTC there, too. Love your music background too...one of my favorite ditties..:-) PPhillips

Jul 30, 2011 - what a great video ! The F-86 was my Dads first "big" job at North American (He designed the wings-original N.A. wanted delta wings). They liked his work so much that he did the F-100's airframe next.

Nov 15, 2011 - I literally LOL'd like five times at this video...starting when the C.O. in the Caddy turned out to be on a moped! I never literally laugh at videos. And when the guy tying the switches launches himself. And of course, the old clown car routine! I think the music is fine. I'm sure there are other songs that would work as well, but I think this one works just great. Thanks for a great laugh; I've added it to my favorites.
