Nov 21, 2011 - Ah, this keeps getting better and better! I can't wait to learn more about Ratana and Monkol's failed marriage. Samphors is adorable, but so manipulative. Chanthy seems sweet and reasonable, but I'm waiting for her dark side to emerge. Conversely, Ratana seems hard-driven, even cruel, but I'm willing to bet that she has a softer side. The actor who plays Chivorn's friend Dy had a small role in AirWaves, didn't he?
WangXiangu Says:
Nov 21, 2011 - OK, so Ratana's softer side emerged before the end of the episode. Unfortunately, that comment about Sros makes it dfficult to feel sympathy for her. I hope she redeems herself in a future episode. But this what makes for complex characters--no one is 100% sympathetic or 100% villainous. Good stuff! I can't wait for Ep. 4.

Nov 21, 2011 - I also found it interesting that Samphors defended Ratana to Sros, even after telling Chivorn how much she resents their mother. Lots of conflicting feelings there! Oh, and I learned how to say "Mind your own business" (or an approximation thereof) in Khmer. Do Cambodians actually say, "fight like cats and dogs?" I heard Sros say "chma" and "chkai," but I'm curious to know if Khmer has a precise equivalent of the English expression, or if the English was translated into Khmer for the script.

KMFCambodia Says:
Nov 22, 2011 - I'm told that the expression 'fight like cats and dogs' exists exactly in Khmer. So, no, it's not a literal awkward translation. (Actually, I was glad to hear that because I myself happened to have written the scene that included the phrase in English.)As for conflicting emotions, there will be lots AND LOTS of those during this series. So, if you like that sort of thing, keep watching!MatthewKMF Producer

Nov 23, 2011 - Re Ratana on Sros: viewers in developed countries like US (with its abhorrence of certain kinds of prejudice and adherence to prescribed PC) could make allowances for different and acceptable social attitudes in Cambodia, indeed much of South East Asia. It's the equivalent of expecting 18th century mores today. Rather than forming judgement based on one's own milieu, viewers might care to sit back, observe and be fascinated by what goes on in far-flung fields.MatthewKMF Producer
WangXiangu Says:
Nov 23, 2011 - @KMFCambodia: I understand the sociocultual context for Ratana's comment. Never fear--I'm still watching with an open mind. The show provides constant reminders that the views I take for granted aren't necessarily common currency around the globe.

Nov 28, 2011 - Having the actor " Sros" in here, really make this movie full of charming! Love this actor. Ratana also acting good. Nice movie although the fun not so big like other develop country but your working group is brilliant.
