The note made no sense. All Snake could conclude from studying what little it had to say was that it was written by a child to their mother, but what was it doing at his door? He let out a defeatist sigh, giving up on figuring out its meaning. To him, there were much higher priorities to make sense of. A vague mumbling sound came from behind him as we walked towards the bathroom. Expecting the worst, he turned in a brief moment of panic, but nothing was there. He cautiously made his way to the direction of the mumbling taking care with each footstep firmly putting his bodyweight in to each silent step, posed like an intrigued stalker. The mumbling grew louder as Snake knelt down to his cabinet, it was made of a dark, polished wood with photos of his childhood past resting on top of it, subtely lit by the calming light of a lamp next to them. The cabinet was positioned at an obscure angle to the wall, Snake knew someone had moved it since he was in his or Cynthia's 'dream'. Desperate for a lead on what was going on, he moved the cabinet further from the wall. The cabinet was hiding a wall of crudely engraved text, as if scratched in by a sharp tool, a defaced crumbling wall with a hole in the size of a human eye and a gun on the floor. Snake let out a sharp sound of shock at his discovery, mainly because of the firearm that was in his home. Hesistant to touch it due to the paranoia towards the law that comes with the society conditioned way of human thought, he shook his head and smiled to himself thinking something as trivial as the 'law' played any part in what was happening to him. He picked up the gun, a typical 9mm pistol, nothing out of the ordinary a part from the fact it was under his cabinet in his apartment. He wedged the firearm in his pants behind him after watching too many horror movies and subconciously assuming that's how one carries a firearm before running his hand along the engraved text on the wall to his left. It spoke about the apartment and how it was condemning the writer by locking him away any way it could, much like Snake's situation. 'Is it a cure of this apartment?' Snake thought, trying to piece together what minimal comprehensible information was given to him. But what really caught his attention in the text was its ending, 'Eileen never noticed'. Was this written by an 'alternate' Snake, was his thoughts, then he heard the rumbling again, It was coming from the hole in the wall. Snake pressed his left eye against the hole and caught the sight of Eileen's apartment, her bedroom in fact and she was in there sitting on her bed. She looked vacant, lost in thought. Snake knew how this situation looked, a man peeping through a hole spying on his female negihbour in her bedroom but he dealt with the morality conflict, he wasn't going to waste an opportunity to get his normality fix. Eileen shook her head as if returning from her adventure of thought deciphering, slapped her knees and stood up."Where did I put that broom?" She walked closer to the hole to pick up the broom, she was half an arm's length away from Snake, the cloest human interaction he'd had for a week. She left the apartment with broom in hand, no doubt to clean up the glass that had broken in the hallway earlier. An eerie hunched over, pink rabbit teddy sat next to her bed with its head turned away from the hole. Something seemed creepily familiar about it, seconds of intense staring at it was enough to break Snake's contact with looking through the hole.Snake stood up and decided to leave the peep hole uncovered, he saw it as his own way of calming down and escaping from the horror that was his recent lifestyle change. He took a moment to think about Eileen, curious why she was mentioned in that text but his attention was more focused on her in general. A week of zero human contact and the feeling his life, world and sanity was completely being distorted, she was the only thing normal, that felt real, she brought him back to the earth and he needed that. Though they were strangers, he let himself start to become somewhat attached to her in an effort to keep his morale high and thinking clear. Everyone wants to come home with something to look froward to, for Snake, it was getting a brief moment of seeing her through a hole in his wall. His happy trail of thought ended with the shrieking ring of a telephone.Knowing full well, the cord to the phone had been cut, he didn't question how it was happening, after all, this wasn't the first time. He made a dash for his bedroom and picked up the phone, clumsily pressing it to his ear."Hello?"There was a pause. Then, a woman's voice cried out to him. "Where did you go? Help me! He's coming to get me!"The call abruptly ended. Snake wasn't a stupid man, he knew that was Cynthia and was in need of help. He went to the bathroom. The hole was still there, echoy and uninviting as ever.
