Dec 22, 2011 - I think one of the only groups on "Top of the Pops" to adamantly *not* lipsync and get away with it, was Rod Stewart and the Faces. Otherwise, everyone had to lipsync. I'm not sure why.

Dec 29, 2011 - I love the cover of this song he made with korn...is a complete different thing but is awsome
FruityCakie Says:
Jan 14, 2012 - Oh gotta 'adore the clear lack of pretending they were actualy playing the song, Smith can't quite seem whether or not to look bored, feigning interest and wanting to dance like he is actually enjoying it just a littler:3

Jan 16, 2012 - well the lip sinc was espacially done wrong coz they hated to playback the song
Xiroi87 Says:
Jan 16, 2012 - Funny you say so, bc they were not considered New Wave. Dark wave? yes, for a while. New wave? No

Mar 31, 2012 - Gothic, gothic gothic, the main goth band and only real way to describe the cure. Love it!
Snotra Says:
Apr 12, 2012 - I love the way he still does this dance with a beer gut !!!
canuck21 Says:
Apr 13, 2012 - In the early days right during the emergence of punk rock, this was called New Wave. It was a term used for all post-punk music that displayed characteristics common to pop music. Something in the same vain as punk rock, but more musical, but less artsy than post-punk.
canuck21 Says:
Apr 13, 2012 - What I never understood is why 99% of the performers didn't play live on TOTP in the '80s and '90s? There might be others, but the only band in that era that performed live on TOTP was New Order. Why was that band allowed and not the others?
NJDJ30 Says:
Apr 21, 2012 - Wait it says they were around 26 years to that? Wha?!?!
CrackCityRocker03 Says:
Apr 23, 2012 - i love this video and robert smith so much
dougdavefresh Says:
Apr 27, 2012 - They were WAY too happy for Goth, though I admit the Robert Smith's look was poster-boy for Goth... Goth was BAUHAUS... But even they got dance-y in Love and Rockets! Heck, even David Bowie got dance-y in the 80's... it was hard to elude... there was Punk (PIL, KENNEDY's, SONIC YOUTH, GANG OF FOUR) and there was New wave, split between the techno-new order, depech mode, o.m.D. and the Rock-new wave of The Smiths in the U.K. and R.E.M. in the States... The Cure was toward that end of the spectrum
missjazzynotes Says:
Apr 28, 2012 - i wish people wouldnt call him fat bob smith. his name is Robert Smith AND he was given that name for a reason. alsooooo the proformances were much bouncier :D

Apr 28, 2012 - Only in the US u have this silly Goth concept about The Cure. Here in Europe we never used the term Goth in the early or mid 80's even for bands that had been around 4 very long. That's more of a US label to market certain bands in the late 80's. Here New Wave had nothing 2 do w techno or w The Smiths. New Wave was a term used in the early 80's to differentiate post-punk band & Dark Wave too. A few years later Americans started using this Goth thing to comprise very different bands.
CrackCityRocker03 Says:
Apr 29, 2012 - whats robert smith got on? a double breasted blazer? whats his suit coat called? anyone know?
dougdavefresh Says:
May 5, 2012 - I agree with The Cure not being Goth, again, I do think Bauhaus was, though... I would have liked to have been in England in the 80's... Thankfully I was in New York suburbs which had good radio stations and College which had plenty of musically-minded cool friends. Saw some good shows in Philly (Furs, Echo...), N.Y (Love & Rockets...) & Washington D.C. (Ramones, Husker Du...), & for that I am thankful. Other than that, we borrowed a lot of each others' LPs & CDs to make great mix CASSETTES : )
Xiroi87 Says:
May 6, 2012 - Oh yes, we didn't have mp3 or ipods but we managed all right with cassettes and walkmans, lol.
xMasterxShadowx Says:
May 20, 2012 - Fucking love this song. I like how Jonathan Davis, and Robert smith combined "make me bad" and this song in Korn's acoustic live show.
