Nov 18, 2011 - INSTRUMENT FOR XMAS PLEASE HELP?? im 16 and im getting an instrument for xmas... i have been debating on bass or guitar for a long time i was like im 16 everyone started guitar in 8th grade so it must be bass. BUT i found out most of the bands that i like (grunge, riot grrrl) all started around my age or later! :) so ive decided guitar. would someone reccomend the fender stratocaster? thank you!

Dec 7, 2011 - The stratocaster is a very versatile instrument and it's a great instrument to find your sound with because of this. It's a very bright sounding guitar and many bands have used them (The smashing pumpkins, sonic youth, Pink Floyd ect.), if you want a heavier tone I would suggest a Les Paul or an SG (Epiphone sells Gibson authorized and designed versions)
jayzakk72 Says:
Dec 14, 2011 - Yeah Its Maple.Rosewood is Dark Brown
GrumpSkull Says:
Dec 31, 2011 - Play the harmonic at twelve fret and compare to fretted at twelve fret. If you have a good ear you can tell the pitch difference and adjust the intonation so the pitch are the same. They are all different because each string gets stretched differently when you fret it.

Jan 17, 2012 - I love the feel of strats--but every dang time I strum and play one I accidentally hit that top knob near the strings and turn the volume down--happens dang near every time----maybe I could tape it in position? that's why I prefer playing a Telecaster--never happens when I play a Tele

Jan 23, 2012 - GOOD SHIT MAN.....I DIDNT REALIZE U COULD PUT THE PICK-UPS BETWEEN1 AND 2...I'M GON TRY THAT ON WITH SOME NIGGY'S MILK PACE!!
shagshred Says:
Jan 26, 2012 - Yo man, you can buy a new pickguard from Warmoth and they have a "Delonge Volume" option, which moves the volume hole away from the strings. I also hated that, and they also have many other nice options including "reverse bridge slant" which I also prefer. Cheers

Jan 27, 2012 - COOL---I'll check it out

Feb 6, 2012 - Looking for a versatile set for my mim strat. I want something that has great bell like glassy tones ala SRV clean/Gilmour clean and something that can get down and dirty ala Hendrix/assorted classic rock bands. Doesn't have to be fender sets, just something under $200. I was really looking into the DiMarzio area p'ups. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Nov 16, 2011 - Holy crap, you people are arguing about strat positions? That's just SAD.And @Jared2324 you're right, USA or bust! Mexistrats are no better than Squiers. I'd know, because I've been playing a Squier for ages and it just works better than any Mexi I try, yet to find a good one.
