But that aside, the crawler gear doesn't really have anything to do with outpulling. If you want to compare a trucks pulling ability, it is best done in direct drive (fourth in a five speed, or fifth in a six speed), as this puts the motors to work, and not the gears.

In fact, most diesel pick-ups have more than enough torque in a regular "non-crawler" first gear than is necessary. The reason the old, old pick-ups used crawler gears was because of a lack of adequate power (especially in the pre-turbo days)
