Title: Mike & The Mechanics - The living Years

Added: Apr 12, 2009

Author: Ryder276

Duration: 5:24

Description:
From Wikipedia:The Mike + The Mechanics version was initially promoted to give the impression the lyrics described the disagreements between Rutherford and his father, who had recently died. In an interview with Mike Rutherford, he said:"The lyrics were written by BA [Robertson] and the song is about something he went through. He lost his Dad and it's about the lack of communication between him and his father before he died. There's also the irony of him having a baby just after losing his father."

May 25, 2012 - I too like many others love this track, I really wish I could have heard the lyrics to this properly before my dad died, I was with him right up to the end at his bedside when he took his last breath, I was telling him how much I loved him but also giving him what for as the night before I had read a part of his diary (I know I shouldn't have but so glad I did) as in it he had mentioned that while he was on a visit to us he didn't feel wanted, so so wrong dad I loved you and still do, 23yrs gone

May 25, 2012 - Many things are understood unspoken. I had just come off of a flight, when I received the call that my dad had died. He was from the WW2 generation, so many things were just unspoken. I believe that my dad's actions said he loved us all. We had some bumpy roads, but we got past that. I believe your dad knew....

May 26, 2012 - Never leave an argument unresolved. You may regret it the rest of your life? and that can be a long time to bear guilt.

May 26, 2012 - Every time I hear this song it reminds me of my dad who brought our family up bad but divorced my mom when I was 10 ,I took care of him when he was old and very ill his last years, I moved down the road I would talk every day I didn't talk to him for a couple of days one week and while I was at work my friend called me to the front desk and I immediately knew my father passed away...my mom was there at the front desk...such a sad song, sad memory.

DiaishiAkye Says:

May 28, 2012 - I think about this and realize that though my dad and I did not agree a lot he is still my father. Long ago I started to put aside the differences, and I had a talk with him and I told him that after all of the things that had past I still loved him. Regardless of the past, my father is still only human and he and I both made mistakes. The good thing is that I forgave my father and showed him it did not matter the mistakes of the past. Don't let them go with bitterness in your heart. Get it out

I'm Cas Says:
