Title: Victor Borge improvising on the piano
Added: Nov 15, 2006
Author: ashi510
Duration: 4:16
Description:
Victor has just finished conducting at one of his 80th birthday concerts and the crowd reaction was so good that the violinist, Anton Kontra, suggests an encore. No encore was planned but Monti's Czardas, which Victor had heard before BUT HAD NEVER PLAYED, is suggested. Nevertheless, the two go at it and put on quite a show. Watch Victor's facial expressions in the 2nd half as his partner escalates the action.

Mar 24, 2012 - The violinist was playing it from memory but with heavy embellishment (standard practice for that piece) and the pianist (Victor Borge) had heard it but didn't know it.

Apr 4, 2012 - It's clear at around the 2 minute mark the audience is starting to get some idea about what's really going on. I just hope they appreciated the skill it took for the two of them to do this together. It's not all Victor or all Anton; it's the synergy of two masters making a (partly) new piece on the fly.

Apr 9, 2012 - I saw him live and never laughed so hard in my life. And that's even after knowing all his routines by heart.

Apr 12, 2012 - Amazing! Classical purists, dont be alarmed, they are improvising over a well known piece. very common in most other styles of music;)

May 12, 2012 - Yeah, sure. But I completely unwillingly find it very similar to Monti's 'Csardas'.

May 12, 2012 - No, YOU HAVE INTRODUCED. To continue ... a job well done to you sir,and after Victor, try, The Music of Laurel and Hardy - it works with the kids as well. After that,p'haps Larry Addler - not as funny but you could describe why he left the USA in the fiftys because of his political beliefs. I'm ranting, sorry.Keep up the good work mam - awesome - and worthwhile.
